Cross Country Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Anthony Drealan
Anthony Drealan is entering his first year as Dakota State University head cross country coach and his third with the program.
In the past two years, Drealan's distance runners enjoyed terrific success at the national level. Under Drealan's guidance, Andy Coy was a national champion at the 2012 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 1000-meter run. Coy also set a South Dakota Collegiate Record with that two minutes and 24.94 seconds 1000-meter clocking. Coy capped off his track campaign with a fourth-place finish in the 1500-meters at the 2012 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, running a 3:47.66 DSU record time. Drealan also helped Matthew Fideler become a national runner-up at the 2012 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the mile run with a DSU record time of 4:06.64.
Coy came back in 2013 to finish as runner-up in the 1000-meter run at the 2013 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Drealan's 4 x 800-meter relay team had great success as well, qualifying for the 2013 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, and breaking the indoor and outdoor 4 x 800-meter school records. In all, Drealan's athletes have earned four NAIA All-Americans and have broken 10 DSU school records.
Drealan is originally from Fulda, Minn., and graduated in May 2011 from Dakota State University with a degree in Business Education. While at Dakota State, Drealan competed for the Trojan cross country and track teams. Drealan holds numerous school records, including the indoor and outdoor Distance Medley Relay (DMR), as well as the outdoor 5000-meter record. Drealan was a two-time NAIA All-American, once as a part of a national runner up DMR squad at the 2010 NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships, and also at the 2009 NAIA National Cross Country Championships. Drealan also helped DSU win its first-ever Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) championship in cross country during the fall of 2009.
Drealan is currently pursuing his master's degree in Health and Human Performance through Adams State University. He resides in Madison, S.D with his wife Samantha (Warnke).

Assistant Coach: Buzz Stevenson
Dakota State University Track & Field and Cross Country Head Coach, Buzz Stevenson, has been involved in sports since his high school days in Ipswich, SD and has been a coach and teacher for 45 years.
A 1961 graduate of Ipswich High School, Buzz was an All-State running back, track & field athlete and basketball player. He placed in the 100 yard and 220 yard events at the state track meet his junior and senior years.
Buzz started his college career at Yankton College. He was an all-conference wide receiver and a member of a track & field team that won two conference championships from 1964-65.
After graduating from Yankton in 1965, Buzz received his Master of Education degree from South Dakota State University in 1973. He coached at the high school level for 14 years, including 10 at Huron High School. While there he led the boys track and field team to their first ever ESD Conference championship in 1976. He then guided them to two more conference championships in 1977 and 1978. In 1977 his boy’s team was the state runner up, and his girl’s cross-country team finished as state champions. In 1978 he was named South Dakota boys track coach of the year.
Before coming to Dakota State, Buzz coached at his alma mater for two years and has spent the past 26 years as head coach at DSU. While at Dakota State Buzz’s teams have accumulated 14 South Dakota Iowa Conference championships and his athletes have produced 57 All-American honors.
While at DSU, Buzz has garnered 14 SDIC coach of the year titles and two NAIA Great Plains regional cross-country coach of the year awards.
Buzz lives in Madison with his wife Diane of 24 years.

Assistant Coach: Cody Foreman
Cody Foreman begins his second year as a volunteer assistant coach. Cody Foreman completed his collegiate eligibility in May of 2010. Foreman was a three-time All-American, including two national runner-up finishes. He holds school records in the indoor 4 x 800-meter relay (7:43.32), indoor distance medley relay (10:01.78), outdoor 4 x 800-meter relay (7:30.74) and outdoor distance medley relay (9:59.04).
Foreman was also a member of the 2009 DSU's Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) Cross Country Conference Championship team.
Foreman will continue working with Head Coach Buzz Stevenson, working primarily with athletes in the sprints, jumps and throws.
Assistant Coach: Matt Fideler
Matt Fideler is assisting the DSU cross country and track teams for the 2012-13 seasons as a student assistant. Fideler completed his cross country and track eligibility this previous May as one of the most decorated DSU cross country and track athletes ever. He was a four-time All-American, which included three national runner-up finishes. He holds school records in the indoor mile (4:06.64), indoor 3000-meters (8:35.92), indoor distance medley relay (10:01.78), indoor 4 x 800-meter relay (7:43.32), outdoor distance medley relay (9:59.04), outdoor 4 x 800-meter relay (7:30.74) and 3000-meter steeplechase (9:11.41).
Fideler will primarily assist Coach Anthony Drealan with the distance squads, as well as continue his runner career training under Coach Drealan.
