Look for Boot Hill Bowl stories in September

August 30, 2011

Prior to the 40th annual of the Trojans' Boot Hill bowl team here on Sept. 24, this 'Where Are They Now?' weblink will be featuring a number of stories related to Dakota State's 23-20 win over Northwestern Oklahoma in Dodge City, Kan. on Dec. 4, 1971.

Highlighting the series will be a behind-the-scenes report on 'the big play' of the game - an 80-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Daryl Fletcher to split end Darwin Robinson in the second-half drive of the game, which helped then-Dakota State College come from a 20-3 halftime deficit to eventually win the Boot Hill Bowl.

Also included in the package will be the efforts that then-sports information director Tom Farrell made to influence the Boot Hill Bowl committe to extend the bowl inviation to head coach Lee Moran and his Trojans.

There will be, too, a story on Coach Moran and his thoughts on the Boot Hill Bowl victory almost 40 years after what proved to be the first postseason victory by a South Dakota college team in a national bowl game.

Included in his story, Moran will let readers know what kind of commitment the Madison community made in making the Boot Hill Bowl a really successful memory-maker.

Readers will also find out what a number of players and coaching staff are doing at the present.  They will also tell of their experience down in Dodge City that wintry December day.

Dakota State website visitors are in store for a number of informative Boot Hill Bowl stories next month.
