down arrowRichard & Judy Anderson Annual Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2010 by Richard (Dick) and Judy Anderson.  Dick ('63) was an outstanding football and basketball student-athlete and was named Athlete of the Year in 1963 at General Beadle State (now DSU).  Dick went on to a successful football coaching  career, in six high schools in four states, winning over 149 games.  He was named Nebraska's Coach of the Year in 1986 and inducted into the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.  Dick and Judy live in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. where they own vehicle dealerships, including Anderson Toyota.  Dick has served on the DSU Foundation Board of Trustees and Dick and Judy are Honorary Chairs for the DSU 2.0:  The Capital Campaign.  This scholarship is awarded to incoming football and basketball players.

down arrowMike and Tammy Miller Annual Scholarship

Mike and Tammy Miller of Madison established this scholarship in 2010.  Mike ('78) is the Safety Director for B & G Transportation in Madison.  He played baseball for four years for Dakota State and has coached baseball at all levels from Little League to high school in Madison.  Tammy ('87) is the CEO of Madison Community Hospital and serves on the DSU Foundation Board of Trustees.  Their scholarship is awarded to a South Dakota resident who plays baseball at DSU and maintains eligibility in accordance with NAIA and DSU academic standards.

down arrowPat Regan Memorial Annual Athletic Scholarship

Madison native and longtime Dakota State University supporter, Patrick 'Pat' Regan, who passed away in 2011, bequeathed funds to DSU for athletic scholarships.  This scholarship is awarded to an incoming or continuing DSU athlete participating in men's basketball, volleyball, baseball, football, softball or women's basketball.

down arrowDon and Jean Rose Annual Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2008 by Don and Jean Rose, owners of Shenanigans Pubs in Sioux Falls and Tea.  It is awarded to a South Dakota resident who plays football at DSU and maintains eligibility in accordance with NAIA and DSU academic standards.

down arrowRandy and Theresa Schaefer Annual Scholarship

Randy and Theresa Schaefer of Madison established this scholarship in 2010.  Randy ('84) owns State Farm Insurance in Madison.  Randy serves on the South Dakota Board of Regents, the DSU Foundation Board of Trustees and Co-Chairs the Alumni Committee of the DSU 2.0:  The Capital Campaign.  Theresa ('89) is an administrative assistant at East River Electric Power Cooperative.  The scholarship is awarded to a basketball player who maintains eligibility in accordance with NAIA and DSU academic standards.

down arrowKarl and LaDonna Schulz Football Annual Scholarship

Karl and LaDonna Schulz, 1960 education graduates of General Beadle College, established this scholarship in 2012.  Karl played football for four years at GBSC and LaDonna was a cheerleader.  Both made their careers in education before retiring.  This scholarship is awarded to incoming or continuing NAIA eligible student-athlete on the DSU football team.  Preference is given to graduates of Deubrook High School and is renewable if student remains on the athletic team.

These scholarships are supported by donors to the Trojan Athletic Club and awarded to student-athletes participating in baseball, football, men's basketball, men's cross country, men's track, softball, volleyball, women's basketball, women's cross country and women's track.

Trojan Annual Scholarships are four-year, guaranteed, $1,000 per year athletic scholarships based upon continued eligibility and sports participation.  The scholarships are unded by several donors.

down arrowRoger and Melodee Anderson Endowed Scholarship

Roger and Melodee Anderson established this scholarship in October 2002. Roger attended DSU (then-General Beadle) from 1961 through 1964. Roger was an outstanding student-athlete who participated in football all of those years until he signed with the Omaha Mustangs, a semi-pro team in the Continental League, in 1964.  Roger was a very successful business man in Nebraska where he owned multiple automotive dealerships. The student-athlete(s) must participate in the sport of football.

down arrowOmar Appelwick Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Omar Appelwick scholarship was established by the Appelwick family of Madison to honor the memory of Apple Lines Trucking Firm founder, Omar Appelwick.  Mr. Appelwick was a lifetime resident and businessman in the community of Madison.  As a youth, he was an outstanding athlete at Madison Central High School and Augustana College, where he was an early inductee into that school's 'Athletic Hall of Fame.' This honor was bestowed because of his prowess and achievements in basketball and football, gaining All-Conference recognition numerous times in both sports.  Following his graduation from Augustana, Omar coached one year at Jefferson, S.D., moving to Madison the following year where he coached basketball at the St. Thomas High School for nine years until its closing in 1945.  This scholarship is awarded to returning students who have demonstrated academic achievement and are participating in collegiate athletics.

down arrowHerbert Webb Blakely Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Former DSU faculty member Gerald Lange along with other DSU faculty, staff, alumni and friends established this endowment in 2001 to honor Herb Webb Blakely.  Blakely was a faculty member in the Division of Business, Industry and Public Administration who was also well known around the state for his many years of leadership by hosting the Dakota History Conference at DSU.  While at DSU, he inspired many athletes throughout his years of coaching cross country and track.  The endowment is designed to aid in the recruitment of, or provides assistance to, men's and women's cross country and track scholar-athletes.

This endowment was established in 2002 by faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the Dakota State Football Program.  In 2011, funds from the Thomas Murphy Memorial Endowment were added to this endowment.  Mr. Murphy was born in River Falls, Wis. in 1949.  He died in Vietnam, April 1, 1970.  This scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to new or returning football student-athletes who are of good character and academically deserving.

down arrowThe Class of 1997 Endowed Scholarship

The Class of 1997 Women's basketball Scholarship Endowment was established in 2003 by DSU Lady T's members Danielle Nolte and Michelle Butash-Daniels.  The scholarship is designed to assist in the recruitment of quality women's basketball players to the Lady T's basketball program.  Danielle and Michelle were the first recruiting class for Coach Jeff Dittman.  In their senior year, Dakota State recorded an 18-10 record and third-place finish in the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference.  The scholarship is awarded to a new or continuing women's basketball team player and is renewable upon maintenance of the established grade point average.

down arrowAlan Ende Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Alan Ende, class of 1981, received a degree in biology and physical sciences, and went on the become a research scientist with Pan America University and a chemist with Sili-Tex Company of San Marcos, Calif.  Alan's friends established this endowment following his deaf in 1987.  Recipients of these scholarships must participate in track or cross-country.  Shortly after his death in 1987, this endowment was established by Alan's many friends who valued his determination and positive attitude through out his educational career and his lifelong struggle with poor health. Funding is continued annually through the Alan Ende Memorial Golf Tournament.  Selection is made through the DSU Athletic Director and Cross Country and Track Coach.

down arrowFiegen Price Athletic Endowed Scholarship

Former Lady T's basketball Hall of Fame player Julie Fiegen-Price established this scholarship in 2004.  Fiegen-Price was elected to the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005, recognizing a collegiate basketball career that included All-Tournament selection in 1984 and SDIC MVP in 1985 and 1986.  After serving as head girls' basketball coach at Dell Rapids St. Mary's High School, Fiegen-Price began working for the U.S. Postal Service.  The Fiegen-Price Athletic Scholarship is awarded to an incoming women's basketball player who is an elementary education or elementary special education major.  If there are no basketball players that are qualified, the scholarship goes to to an elementary education major.

down arrowMike Freidel Football Endowed Scholarship

Mike Freidel ('79), was an outstanding football player at DSU.  In 2000, he was inducted into the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 2007, the 1977 football team, of which he was a member, was inducted into the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame.  Mike was a college football coach throughout his professional career, at Dakota State, Southwest Minnesota State, Augustana and the University of South Dakota.  This scholarship is awarded to an NAIA eligible defensive player at DSU with preference to a South Dakota high school graduate.  In 2008, teammates, players, friends and family established the endowment in Mike's honor.

down arrowDr. Monty Friedow Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in loving memory of Dr. Monty Friedow who died of cancer in 1994 at the age of 36. Monty was first diagnosed with cancer during his senior year at Madison High School. He was the son of Doyce and Audrey Friedow of Madison. Dr. Friedow did undergraduate studies at Dakota State University and then went on to receive a doctorate in Optometry at Pacific University in 1983. Monty, his wife Elizabeth (Green), and their children moved back to Madison in 1987 where he practiced optometry. Dr. Friedow was an enthusiastic Trojan fan and enjoyed working closely with athletes and coaches. This scholarship is given annually to a men's basketball player who is an upperclassman in good character and academic standing who has also represented DSU as an outstanding student-athlete.

down arrowDawn Gaffney Endowed Scholarship

This women's basketball endowment was established by Lou Gaffney on behalf of his daughter, Dawn, to assist in the recruitment of quality women basketball players. Dawn was a four-year letter winner at Dakota State from 1994-1998. Her basketball accomplishments were outstanding including being named Dakota State's first third team NAIA All-American in 1998. In 1997 and 1998, Dawn was also named NAIA Academic All-American. She also was selected as a recipient of the John Wollman Award, which is given to one female and one male in the conference who best represents the student-athletes. Her senior year, she was named first team SDIC female Athlete of the Year for both her academic and athletic achievements. The fund is designed to aid in the recruitment of, and to provide assistance to, women's basketball scholar-athletes.

down arrowTitan John Gioglio Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established on Sept. 19, 2002 in loving memory of Dakota State University's Athletic Director Tom Gioglio and wife Melissa's infant son. This endowment could not have been created without the generosity and kindness of family and friends.  The recipient of this annual scholarship must be a student participating in varsity athletics at DSU with a 3.5 GPA and is involved in community service activities.

This endowment was established in 1995 in honor of Maurice 'Ed' Harter.  Ed was a member of the DSU faculty for 28 years and coached the men's basketball and baseball teams.  He was inducted into the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.  This scholarship is awarded to a new or returning men's basketball player.

The Ernest S. Henning Memorial Scholarship was set up to honor Ernest S. Henning, father of Dakota State Volleyball Coach, Cynthia Henning.  Ernie was a strong supporter of the Trojan Volleyball program and of his daughter.  Through the generous contributions of family and friends, this scholarship pays tribute to a wonderful man and father who inspired and touched the lives of not only his daughter but everyone who came in contact with him.  This award is given annually to a volleyball player who upholds the values of hard work, commitment and competitive spirit that Ernest enjoyed watching in the Trojan Volleyball program.

down arrowHonermann Family Endowed Scholarship

This women's basketball scholarship was established by Rick and Diane Honermann on behalf of their daughter Heidi and their niece Jessica to assist the Lady T's in the recruitment of quality women basketball players. Both players are graduates of Adrian High School and were standout prep athletes for the southwest Minnesota community.

Heidi was a four-year letter winner at Dakota State from 1997 through 2001. A two-time Academic All-American, Heidi was one of the most proficient long-range shooters to ever play at Dakota State.

Jessica was a four-year letter winner from 1999 to 2003. The 6'0" forward was an All-DAC 10 performer and is found throughout the DSU record books.

down arrowLeslie Grayson Kern Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This endowment was established in memory of Leslie Grayson Kern who lost her battle with cervical cancer on Sept. 16, 1997.  She was born and raised in Madison, S.D., graduated from Madison High School and attended DSU.  SHe married Brian Kern, who attended DSU in 1986-87.  Brian and his brother Dan established this endowment in Leslie's name.  This scholarship is awarded to student-athlete with preference given to football players.  The recipient must demonstrate qualities of leadership, good character and success in academics.

down arrowClaude A. Mallory Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1975 through a bequest from the estate of Mr. Mallory, long-time Madison businessman.  This endowment funds scholarships to graduates of Madison High School who plan to attend DSU as incoming traditional freshmen and participate in intercollegiate sports.  The DSU Athletic Director participates in the selection of the recipients, which are based on academic achievement and athletic ability.

down arrowDick Matthews Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The family of Dick Matthews established this scholarship endowment in his honor in 2010.  Dick, a former teacher, coach and athlete loved Madison, S.D. and Dakota State University.  He passed away in 2010.  Dick was a huge fan of college basketball and football and followed these sports religiously.  While raising six children, and enduring season after season as a coach, he appreciate how important sports can be in shaping the values he believed in.  This scholarship is awarded evenly to one freshmen men's basketball player and one men's football player, and is renewable for three years if the student maintains the established eligibility criteria and remains a member of the basketball or football team.

down arrowJane Nielsen Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Jane Nielsen was the mother of Erin Nielsen who played for the Lady T's women's basketball team from 1999-2003. Throughout Erin's first two seasons as a Lady T, Jane only missed 3 games out of nearly 70 contests. Jane was a mom to the Lady T's players whose parents couldn't make it to games. She was a positive person who cared about the student-athletes. For these reasons and many more, Jane was named as the Lady T's "Most Valuable Mom!"

This endowment has been created in Jane's memory for a Lady T who exemplifies a similar level of commitment, determination, and pride to the team as she once did.  This is to be awarded to a second-year athlete, who is in good academic standing and exemplifies a high level of commitment, determination and pride to the team based on first-year experiences.  The recipient of this scholarship must also show need for financial assistance, and if possible, coming from a single parent family.

down arrowJohn Michael Pecks Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Dwayne and Edith Pecks, both graduates of the class of 1956, created this endowment in loving memory of their son, John Michael.  This scholarship is awarded to new or continuing freshman who are academically deserving, demonstrate qualities of leadership and have financial need.  Preference is given to students who participate or intend to participate in athletics at DSU and who are from high schools in South Dakota or any state bordering S.D.  The award is eligible for renewal.

down arrowMaurice and Alice Poppen Endowed Scholarship

This endowment was established on December 19, 2002 by Maurice ('59) and Alice Poppen.  Maury was a member of the Trojan men's basketball team and was inducted into the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.  He spent his career in education, teaching and coaching for 35 years.  Alice retired from the U.S. District Court System in 2000 when they moved back to Madison.  She has served on the DSU Foundation Board of Trustees since 2005, serving as chair from 2008-2012.  This scholarship will be awarded to a freshman men's basketball player.  This scholarship is renewable if student-athlete maintains his academic standings and remains a member of the Trojan basketball team.

down arrowLynn and Terry Ryan Endowed Scholarship

This endowment was established in 2003 by Lynn and Terry Ryan in support of women's basketball.  Terry and Lynn began work at DSU in 1975.  Terry was awarded Vice President/Dean of Students Emeritus and Instructor Emeritus of Mathematics status upon his retirement in 2003 and is still teaching Math part-time at Dakota State.  Terry has also been the official clock operator of DSU men's and women's basketball home games for a number of years.  Lynn retired in 2010 as an assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences for English, Spanish and French and was the International Programs Director and International Club Advisor.  She is also a native of Kentucky which means she is a crazy fan of basketball.  Terry and Lynn have donated to this endowment with the belief that successful student-athletes must skills that will last them a lifetime.  These skills include hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship and the ability to demonstrate class in winning and losing.  This scholarship is awarded to a new or continuing student-athlete participating int he women's basketball program that initially meets and maintains the established grade point average for renewal.

down arrowKari Satter-Holman Endowed Scholarship

The Kari Satter scholarship was set up by her parents, Robert and Barbara Satter in 2000, to honor their daughter, Kari Satter Holman, class of 1999. An outstanding three-sport high school athlete from Irene, S.D., Kari brought her athletic and academic skills to DSU and had immediate impact on the women's basketball program. For her collegiate career, Kari was twice named to the SDIC All-Conference squad and was selected an Academic All-American in 1999. Recipients of this scholarship are continuing students from South Dakota and participate in women's basketball.

down arrowKarl and LaDonna Schulz Endowed Scholarship

This endowment was established in 2003 by Karl and LaDonna Schulz. Karl and LaDonna (Silkenson) graduated from General Beadle State College in 1960 with degrees in Education. Karl played football for three years at GBSC and LaDonna was a cheerleader. This scholarship will be awarded to a student-athlete, with preference given to students from Brookings County or Deubrook High School. Selection is made by the DSU Athletic Director.

down arrowKathy Shypulski Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship for women's basketball was established by Jerry and Ann Shypulski on behalf of their daughter Kathy. "Kat" was an outstanding basketball player who helped lead DSU to two conference championships while advancing to the NAIA National Tournament her junior and senior seasons. DSU advanced to the "Elite Eight" and "Sweet Sixteen" rounds at the post-season tournament.

While helping the team reach their goals, Kathy was also a 1st team All-Conference selection twice, was named honorable mention All-American in 2000 and 2nd team All-American in 2001 and two-time Academic All-American. Kathy's senior year, she was named the Most Valuable Senior Basketball Athlete in the Dakota-10 Conference.

down arrowChristian Steiber Memorial Athletic Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2001 through the estate of Lucille Steiber, widow of Christian Steiber. Christian Steiber attended DSU around 1916, but did not graduate from the University. He and his wife lived in Arizona most of their lives. Their gift to DSU is one of the largest in the University's history and supports both academic and athletic scholarship programs. Awards are made based on a student's financial need.

down arrowTunheim and Friends Garden Coop Athletic Endowed Scholarship

Nancy and Dr. Jerald Tunheim established this endowment in 2008.  With help from family and friends, Nancy and Dr. Tunheim plant, tend and harvest a large garden.  More than twenty families purchase coop memberships that entitle them to the fruits and vegetables produced.  The proceeds from the coop memberships, supplemented by a personal contribution from Nancy and Dr. Tunheim, fund this endowment.  Scholarships are given to DSU women's basketball players who maintain a 2.8 GPA.

down arrowNancy and Dr. Jerry Tunheim Endowed Athletic Scholarship

Dr. Tunheim was the 20th President of Dakota State University from 1987 to 2004.  Realizing the importance of athletics to the university, Nancy and Dr. Tunheim fund this endowment to provide scholarships for incoming or continuing DSU athletes with financial need.

This scholarship was established on November 20, 2003 through the generosity of the founding donors.  Selection is made by the DSU Athletic Director.

down arrowLisa Bernard Wachlarowicz Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This endowment was established in 1990 by many friends and fellow DSU alumni to honor the memory of Lisa Bernard-Wachlarowicz, class of 1980.  Lisa, a Jefferson, S.D. native, was an active athlete and an elementary and learning disabilities educator who died in 1989 after a two-year battle with cancer.  This scholarship is awarded to a student participating in either women's basketball or volleyball with a preference to an education major.

down arrowHilbertus A. and Goldie A. Wieman Family Scholarship

This endowment, established in 2001, is intended to be a memorial to Hilbertus A. Wieman, husband of Goldie A. Wieman, and father of Randy, David, Glenda, Eldon, Norman, Carol, and Gloria. Five of the children received their degrees from Dakota State University and at times there were two attending at the same time. Recipients at this scholarship must be an incoming student; either freshman or transfer. They must be academically deserving, in need of financial assistance, and they must demonstrate qualities of good leadership and good character. Preference will also be given to graduates of high schools in South Dakota within a 100-mile radius of Dakota State University.  Priority consideration to students who attend Marion, Canistota, Harrisburg, Tri-Valley or Madison High School.
