FOREST CITY, Iowa - The Dakota State University volleyball team extended their winning streak to four matches as they defeated a pair of teams from the Midwest Collegiate Conference at Hanson Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. The Trojans beat the host-team Waldorf (Iowa) in four sets and swept AIB College of Business (Iowa) in three straight sets.
Dakota State improved their overall record to 13-14.
After DSU dropped the first set (29-27) to the Warriors in the first match, the Trojans went on to win three straight sets (25-20, 25-14 and 25-17) for a 3-1 match victory.
Stephanie Kruggel and Kristen DiPaola each had 14 kills for DSU. Caitlin Pick added 11 kills and recorded four block assists. Lauren LaBar had eight kills. Stacey Schuller contributed 44 set assists and recorded 12 digs.
Katie Green had four service aces and 12 digs for the Trojans. DiPaola added 14 digs. Kruggel had 10 digs and six block assists.
Dakota State amassed 49 kills and recorded a .231 hitting percentage in the match. The Trojans had eight service aces and 9.5 team blocks.
No statistics were reported for Waldorf.
DSU made a quick work in the second match of the day, sweeping the Eagles in three straight sets (25-12, 25-10 and 25-13).
Kruggel had 10 kills and six block assists for Dakota State. Pick added seven kills and recorded two solo blocks. DiPaola had six kills. Schuller had 25 assists.
Green led DSU's defense with 11 digs.
The Trojans recorded an impressive .375 hitting percentage in the match, committing only eight attack errors. DSU had 10 team blocks.
AIBC's statistics were not completed.
Dakota State looks to move to .500 on Wednesday night as they return home. The Trojans will attempt to extend their winning streak as they host their in-state rival Dakota Wesleyan as part of DSU Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night. The junior varsity match starts at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 7:30 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.
