Trojans storm past Royals in DSU women's basketball season opener

MADISON, S.D. - Dakota State held Grace (Neb.) to 20.9 overall field goal percentage Tuesday night as the Trojans recorded a 83-36 win at DSU Fieldhouse. The Trojans never trailed in the game as DSU won its seventh straight season opener.

A three-pointer from Kylie Westover and Cassie Jacobsen give the Trojans a 6-0 lead to open the game. DSU continued to grow their lead to 34-10 with five minutes and 15 seconds before halftime.

Dakota State held a 43-17 halftime advantage.

The Trojans outscored the Royals 40-19 in the game's final 20 minutes.

All 10 Trojan players scored in the game.

Sharee Galbraith had a double-double of 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Dakota State. She was 7-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. Westover and Jayda Swenson each recorded 12 points. Jacobsen and Julie Munson each had nine points.

Courtney Hamblin recorded a game-high 14 rebounds. She dished out five assists and had two blocks. Munson nailed down seven boards.

For Grace, Destiny Gamble had 14 points on her 7-for-18 field goal shooting. Asheigh Gyalog added 13 points.

The Royals committed 29 turnovers in the game compared to the Trojans' 13. The Trojans scored 26 points off turnovers, while Grace scored nine points.

Dakota State scored 34 points off the bench. The Trojans outscored Grace 50-10 in the paint.

DSU shot nearly 50 percent from the field in the game (36-for-73 - 49.3 percent) compared to the Royals' 14-for-67 from the field.

DSU dished out 24 team assists, while Grace recorded three assists. The Trojans outrebounded Grace 50-40. The Royals had 25 offensive rebounds compared to the Trojans' 19.

Dakota State heads on the road on Saturday. The Trojans face their former Dakota Athletic Conference foe Mayville State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville, N.D.
