Dakota State drops to pair of opponents at Hastings Quality Inn Classic

HASTINGS, Neb. - Dakota State dropped a pair of matches in the first day of the Hastings Quality Inn volleyball classic on Friday at Lynn Farrell Arena. The Trojans suffered a pair of sweeps from Southern Nazarene (Okla.) and host-team Hastings.

DSU dipped their overall record to 4-8.

Southern Nazarene held the Trojans to -.013 hitting efficiency as the Crimson Storm rolled in three straight sets (25-11, 25-16 and 25-12). The Crimson Storm raised their overall record to 9-1.

Lauren LaBar had four kills for DSU. Stacey Schuller contributed 11 set assists. Katie Green had 10 digs.

For the Crimson Storm, Kira Roberts had 12 kills. Kaylee Piatt had 19 assists. Skylar Blackburn added 11 assists.

Southern Nazarene outhit DSU 40-16 in the match. The Crimson Storm had a hitting percentage of .421. The Trojans suffered 17 attack errors compared to Crimson Storm eight.

Dakota State dropped their second match of the day to the Broncos. The Broncos won the first two sets by the scores of 25-18 and 25-15. The third set went down to the wire where Hastings won by the score of 26-24.

Kristen DiPaola had 12 kills for DSU. Stephanie Kruggel added nine kills. Schuller produced 28 assists.

Green had 14 digs or the Trojans. Stephanie Uher added 13 digs.

DSU had 32 kills in the match and a killing percentage of .196.

No statistics were reported for Hastings.

Dakota State looks to bounce back in the winning column on the second day of the Hastings Quality Inn Classic at Lynn Farrell Arena. The Trojans face McPherson (Kan.) at 11 a.m.  The Trojans conclude the classic against No. 11 Doane at 3 p.m.
