BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Oklahoma Wesleyan swept Dakota State 14-0 and 13-5 in softball action Tuesday at the OKWU Softball field. It was the season opener for the Trojans.
Dakota State is 0-2 overall record. Oklahoma Wesleyan won their sixth straight game to raise their overall record to 7-4.
Game 1 - Oklahoma Wesleyan 14, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 (5 innings) - BOX SCORE
The Eagles scored once in the first and second innings to earn a 2-0 lead.
OKWU exploded for 12 runs in the bottom fourth frame to extend their lead to 14-0.
The game ended in the fifth inning due to mercy-run rule.
Dakota State was unable to produce a hit in the game. Samantha Deen, Bretton Lien and Katie Silbowski each had a walk.
Allison Edwards had a home run, a double and recorded four RBIs for Oklahoma Wesleyan. Jessica Farris and Miranda Kiser each added three RBIs.
Silbowski took the loss on the pitching mound. She pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed eight runs on three hits. Lori Harshbarger and Bretton Lien pitched in relief.
Jenna Daniel tossed a shutout victory for the Eagles. She gave up three walks and recorded 11 strikeouts in five innings of work.
Game 2 - Oklahoma Wesleyan 13, Dakota State (S.D.) 5 (6 innings) - BOX SCORE
Dakota State produced three runs in the top of the first inning to earn a quick 3-0 lead.
Oklahoma Wesleyan answered with four runs in the bottom first frame to overtake the lead from the Trojans 4-3.
DSU regained their lead at 5-4 with two runs scored in the top of the second inning.
The Eagles scored five times in the bottom third frame to gain a 9-5 lead.
OKWU scored once in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 11-5.
The Eagles sealed the game in the bottom sixth frame with two runs scored, ending the game due to mercy-run rule.
Brittany Hill was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Trojans. She had a home run, a single and produced three RBIs. Renaye Gamson and Silbowski each had a hit and an RBI. Deen, Elizabeth Rubalcava and Chelsey John each had a hit.
Macy Wright and Candace Perkins recorded three hits for the Eagles. Kiser and Christie Bell each had a double and a single.
OKWU outhit DSU 15-7.
Deen pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Trojans. She gave up four runs on seven hits. Lien (0-1) took the loss as she tossed 2 1/3 innings. She allowed nine runs on eight hits.
Daniel (5-1) recorded the win for the Eagles. She worked for 4 2/3 innings and limited the Trojans to two hits. Katie Kelly started the game as she pitched 1 1/3 innings. She allowed five runs on five hits.
Dakota State continues their action Wednesday as they visit Mid-American Christian (Okla.). The doubleheader kicks off at 1 p.m. in Oklahoma City.
