YANKTON, S.D. – Mount Marty (S.D.) never trailed in the women's basketball game versus in-state rival Dakota State (S.D.) Saturday evening, earning a 77-59 victory at Cimpl Arena. The Lancers drained 12 3-pointers in the victory.
It was the season opener for the Lady T's. Mount Marty, a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, improved to 2-0 overall record.
At 13-10, the Lancers used a 12-2 scoring run to expand their lead to 25-12 with ten minutes and 48 seconds left in the first half.
MMC earned a 41-29 halftime advantage.
Mount Marty shot 13-for-40 from the field (32.5 percent) compared to Dakota State 8-for-25 (32 percent).
The Lady T's could get no closer than 10 points on two different occasions – 41-31 with 18:57 left and 43-33 with 13:49 remaining. The Lancers secured the game by maintaining their double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
MMC was 13-for-35 from the field (37.1 percent) in the final twenty minutes of the game. DSU was held to 8-for-27 shooting (29.6 percent).
Madison Walford recorded a double-double off the bench with 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lady T's. BreeAna Olson scored 11 points. Jayda Swenson had 10 points. Sharee Galbraith had nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds. She had two blocked shots.
Erin Rabenberg tallied nine points and earned six board for DSU. Olson, Kennedy Wagner and Sweson each dished out two assists.
Olson stole the ball two times for Dakota State. Wagner and Kendra Lindblad each had a steal.
Raquel Sutera had a double-double of 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lancers. Alex Kneeland scored 17 points off the bench. Holly Hegge added 11 points and recorded eight rebounds.
April Winne had four assists for MMC. Cassidy Gebhart had two blocks and two steals.
Hegge and Sutera stole the ball three times for Mount Marty.
Both teams struggled from the field with the Lancers shooting 34.7 percent (26-for-75). The Lady T's were 16-of-52 from the field (30.8 percent).
Mount Marty drained 12 3-pointers in 37 attempts (32.4 percent). Dakota State was unable to make a 3-pointer in nine attempts.
DSU went to free-throw line 39 times, making 27 free-throws (69.2 percent). MMC was 13-for-22 from the free-throw line (59.1 percent).
The Lady T's won the rebounding battle, grabbing 55 rebounds in the game compared to the Lancers' 43 rebounds.
Dakota State plays their first home game of the season Tuesday as they face another member of the GPAC. The Lady T's host Dordt (Iowa) with a tip-off starting at 5:30 p.m. The game will be held at the DSU Fieldhouse.
