MADISON, S.D. – Mount Marty (S.D.) hit 16 3-pointers Wednesday evening, defeating Dakota State (S.D.) 89-68 in women's basketball non-conference action at DSU Fieldhouse. The Lancers drained 12 3-pointers in the first-half to gain a 21-point halftime lead and never looked back.
Dakota State, which played their second game of the four-game stretch against members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, fell to 6-5 overall record. Mount Marty ended their four-game losing skid and lifted their overall record to 8-6.
The Lancers opened the game with a 5-0 lead before the Lady T's used a 7-0 run to earn their first lead of the game. A basket by Jayda Swenson (assisted by Madison Walford) with sixteen minutes and thirty-five seconds left in the first-half.
At 10-10, MMC outscored DSU 18-8 to grab a ten-point lead at 28-18 with less than 10 minutes before intermission.
Mount Marty closed the first-half with a 26-15 run in the final 9:52 for a 54-33 halftime lead.
The Lancers shot 20-of-35 from the field (57.1 percent) in the first-half. MMC was 12-of-24 from the 3-point line (50 percent) and 8-of-11 from the 2-point field goals. The Lady T's were 13-of-28 from the field (46.4 percent) and 2-for-7 from the 3-point line.
Both teams scored 35 points in the second-half as MMC secured the victory.
DSU shot 48 percent from the field in the final twenty minutes (12-of-25) compared to MMC 40 percent (10-of-25).
The Lady T's had four players scored in double digits led by Sharee Galbraith with 18 points. She was 6-of-9 from the field and made all six free-throws. BreeAna Olson and Erin Rabenberg each added 11 points. Walford scored 10 points. Courtney Hulstein had seven points.
Galbraith earned six rebounds and recorded a blocked shot for DSU. Swenson, Walford and Hulstein each had four boards.
Walford, Rabenberg, Kendra Lindblad and Jordan Hansen each produced three assists for Dakota State. Olson stole the ball five times.
Alex Kneeland scored 22 points by going 8-for-17 from the field and 5-for-13 from the 3-point line for the Lancers. Raquel Sutera added 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and 4-for-6 from the 3-point arc. April Winne had 12 points. Holly Hegge tallied 10 points.
Cheyenne Lambley pulled down eight rebounds for MMC. Sutera added seven rebounds.Â
Cassidy Gebhart dished out five assists for Mount Marty. Winne added four assists.
The Lancers shot 30-for-60 overall from the field (50 percent). MMC was 16-for-41 from the 3-point line (39 percent) and 14-for-19 on 2-point field goals (73.7 percent). The Lady T's were 25-of-53 from the field (47.2 percent) and 3-for-15 from the 3-point arc (20 percent).
DSU went to the free-throw line 21 times, making 15 free-throws (71.4 percent). MMC was 13-of-20 free-throws (65 percent).
Mount Marty outrebounded Dakota State 41-26.
The Lady T's outscored the Lancers 14-7 in fast-break points.
Dakota State heads to Sioux City to play a pair of games in the Morningside (Iowa) Holiday Classic. The Lady T's play Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Monday, Dec. 29 with a tip-off starting at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 30, DSU visits the NAIA's No. 1 team in the nation and host-team Morningside (Iowa) at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be held at RVSC-Allee Gym.
