MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) never trailed Saturday afternoon in a non-volleyball conference match versus Waldorf (Iowa) at DSU Fieldhouse. The Trojans rolled past the Warriors in three straight sets by the scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-14 to complete their three-match home stand undefeated.
Dakota State raised their overall record to 7-4. Waldorf lost their third straight match to dip their overall record to 3-9.
At 8-8 in the opening set, the Trojans scored six straight points – including a kill from Caitlin Pick, Kylie Martin and Brittney Anderson – to give DSU a 14-8 lead. The Trojans never looked back as they earn a 1-0 match lead with a 25-17 victory.
Both teams had 13 kills in the opening set, but DSU took advantage of Warriors' nine attack errors (.103 hitting percentage). The Trojans hit .257 in the first set and only committed four attack errors.
Dakota State roared to 16-5 lead in the second set. The Trojans extended their match lead to 2-0 by winning the second set 25-15. DSU hit .278 in the set and held WC to .061 hitting efficiency.
The Trojans raced to an 8-1 lead in the third set, thanks to Waldorf's six attack errors. DSU hit .364 (9 kills with 1 error in 22 attempts) to secure the match by winning the third set 25-14. Waldorf was held to a negative .107 (9 kills with 12 errors in 28 attempts).
Pick hit a career-high .647 in the match for the Trojans. She smashed a total of 11 kills and did not commit an attack error in 17 attempts. Pick also added a career-high 10 block assists (5 total blocks).
Rozell added eight kills with a hitting efficiency of .438 for DSU. She had three block assists.
Anderson recorded seven kills for the Trojans. Tessa Weeldreyer had five kills.
Stacey Westby tallied 17 set assists for DSU. Kaylee Vander Wal added 13 assists.
Katherine Gonzalez led the Trojans' defense with 18 digs.
Alicia Karst had seven blocks for Dakota State (3.5 total blocks). Rozell added three block assists and Anderson had two block assists.
Weeldreyer, Allison Thielsen, Gonzalez and Rozell each had a service ace for the Trojans.
Kendra Stokke had eight kills for the Warriors. Courtney Palmer had seven kills. Kaitlyn Monck had 12 assists.
Palmer had 14 digs for Waldorf. Briley Sullivan added 11 digs.
Dakota State outhit WC 36-30 in the match. The Trojans had a hitting percentage of .290 compared to the Warriors' .030.
DSU had four service aces and recorded a service percentage of .946. WC recorded two service aces with a service percentage of .915.
The Trojans accumulated 11.5 blocks in the match. Waldorf had four team blocks.
DSU travels to Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday evening to take on Briar Cliff in a non-conference action. Junior varsity starts at 6 p.m., followed by a varsity match at 7:30 p.m.
Dakota State heads to Omaha, Neb. next weekend to play four matches in the Saint Mary-Grace (Neb.) Tournament. The Trojans look to extend their winning streak as they face Grace and York (Neb.) on the first day of the tournament on Sept. 12. DSU concludes the tournament with two more matches on Sept. 13 versus Southwestern (Kan.) and AIB (Iowa).
