JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Jamestown (N.D.) outhit Dakota State (S.D.) 46-34 Saturday evening in a 3-0 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Volleyball conference regular-season finale at Hansen Center. The Jimmies halted Trojans' seven-match winning streak by posting the scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-23.
Dakota State fell to 20-13 overall record and finished their NSAA conference schedule with a 10-3 mark, the best conference winning percentage (.769) in the three-year NSAA conference history. Jamestown won their fifth straight match to lift their overall record to 18-10 and 12-1 NSAA.
Trailing 12-11 in the first set, Jamestown stormed by using a 14-5 scoring spurt for a 25-17 victory and 1-0 match lead. The Jimmies hit .265 in the opening set (13 kills with 4 errors in 34 attempts), while the Trojans hit .118 (9 kills with 5 errors in 34 attempts).
There were seven ties and two lead changes in the first set.
At 17-16 in the second set, UJ used another strong closing run to extend their lead to 2-0. The Jimmies used an 8-1 run, including scoring the final four points of the second set for another 25-17 victory. Jamestown hit .257 in the set (15 kills with 6 errors in 35 attempts) compared to Dakota State .108 hitting efficiency (10 kills with 6 errors in 37 attempts).
Down 19-14, the Trojans mounted a comeback in the third set with a 6-1 scoring run to tie at 20-20. The Jimmies went on with a 4-1 run before the Trojans scored the next two points to cut UJ's lead at 24-23. A kill by Alaina Brown secured the match for Jamestown after a 25-23 victory.
UJ outhit DSU 18-15 in the third set.
Carly Rozell posted a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs for Dakota State. She had two solo blocks. Tessa Weeldreyer added nine kills. Kirstin Johnson and McKenzie Werner each had five kills.
Kaylee Vander Wal led the Trojans with 19 set assists. Rachel Johnson had eight assists and eight digs.
Chelsey Davis collected 14 digs for DSU. Allison Thielsen had nine digs.
Heather Bachman led the Jimmies' offense with 15 kills and hit .560 in the match. Madison Wendel had nine kills. Brown and Kaitlin Anderson each smashed eight kills.
Kaia Buck registered 27 assists for UJ. Aubrey Beaumont had 16 assists.
Nicole Warren had a match-high 35 assists for Jamestown. Julina Niemeier had 11 digs. Brown had 10 digs.
Jamestown hit .269 in the match (46 kills with 14 errors in 119 attempts), while Dakota State hit .160 (34 kills with 15 errors in 119 attempts).
The Jimmies had eight service aces while the Trojans did not record an ace.
Dakota State awaits to hear the pairings for the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Volleyball Conference Postseason Tournament. The Trojans are scheduled to play next Saturday (Nov. 7).
