DSU men?s basketball dominates Oglala Lakota (S.D.) 111-37

MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) held Oglala Lakota (S.D.) to a season-low 17.2 percent shooting from the field Saturday afternoon, earning an 111-37 dominating men's basketball victory on the second day of the Farmers State Bank TeamMaker Classic at the Corn Palace hosted by Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.).  The Trojans never trailed in the game and each player scored at least four points and recorded a rebound in the game.  DSU hit the century mark for the second time this season.

Dakota State snapped their two-game losing skid to raise their overall record to 3-3.  Oglala Lakota fell to 0-4.

DSU opened up the game by scoring nine straight points in the first one minute and forty-seven seconds of the game, thanks to the first four points from Kyle Kilgore followed by five straight points scored by Brendon Boomsma.

The Trojans stretched their lead to 50-18 by halftime.  Dakota State was 50 percent shooting from the field in the first-half (20-of-40) while Oglala Lakota was held to 15.6 percent field goal shooting (5-of-32).

DSU outscored the Bravehearts 61-19 in the final twenty minutes of the game.  Dakota State was 24-of-43 from the field (55.8 percent), while Oglala Lakota was 19.2 percent shooting.

Kilgore led the Trojans with 17 points on his 7-of-11 shooting from the field.  Boomsma added 13 points.  JoBreil Powell poured in 16 points off the bench (6-of-8 field goals).  Ian Barse had 11 points.  Justin Folkers scored nine points, while Jay Huls had eight points. 

DSU drained 15 3-pointers in the game, which is the third most 3-pointers made in a single game in the Trojan men's basketball record book.  Boomsma, Barse and Powell each made three 3-pointers.  Tanner Heiser and Huls each added two 3-pointers.

Derek Meger pulled down 11 rebounds for Dakota State.  Kilgore and Nathaniel Rauen each contributed seven rebounds.  Heiser, Powell and Folkers each had six rebounds.

Eleven different DSU players recorded at least an assist in the game, led by Adam Fideler with five assists.  Boomsma, Rauen and Adam Hofer each added four assists.  The Trojans dished out a total of 31 assists in the game, tied third most assists in a single game in the DSU men's basketball record book.

Tate Widow led the Bravehearts with a double-double of 11 points and earned 12 rebounds.  Tim Has No Horse, Eddie Jumping Eagle and Bailey Pourier each had eight points.

Dakota State converted 44 baskets in 83 attempts in the game (53 percent).  DSU's 44 made field goals are tied for fifth most baskets in a game in the Trojan men's basketball record book.  Oglala Lakota shot 10-of-58 from the field, including 6-of-30 3-pointers.  DSU was 46.9 percent from the 3-point arc.

OLC was 11-of-15 free-throws (73.3 percent).  DSU hit 8 free-throws- in 19 attempts (42.1 percent).

The Trojans grabbed 65 rebounds in the game, tied for second most rebounds in a single game.  The Bravehearts recorded 26 rebounds.

Oglala Lakota's 37 points was the third-fewest points that Dakota State gave up in the Trojan men's basketball record book.  DSU's 74-point margin was the second widest margin of victory in the record book.

Dakota State returns home on Friday evening for a non-conference contest versus Trinity Bible (N.D.).  Tip-off from the DSU Fieldhouse is set for 7:30 p.m. in Madison, S.D.
