MADISON, S.D. – The Dakota State University Lady T's put together a season-high first quarter total points Friday evening at DSU Fieldhouse, cruising to a 94-60 non-conference victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.). The Lady T's won their third straight game and their sixth win in the last seven games.
Dakota State continued to match their best start since 2007-08 season with an overall record of 7-2. Trinity Bible was playing as an exhibition game and remained at 3-3 overall record.
Kennedy Wagner fueled the Lady T's by opening the game with five straight points for 5-0 lead with nine minutes and nine seconds on the clock.Â
DSU extended their double digit at 17-7 with 6:41 left in the first quarter and maintained their double-digit lead for the rest of the game.Â
The Lady T's led 32-17 after the first quarter, thanks to a sizzling 63.6 percent shooting from the field (14-of-22).
Dakota State outscored the Lions 23-14 in the second quarter to take a 55-31 halftime advantage. It was a season-high points scored for the Lady T's in the first-half.
DSU's lead ballooned to 80-42 after the third quarter, outscoring TBC 25-11. The Lady T's had the largest lead of the game at 85-42 with 8:44 remaining in the game after a basket by Courtney Hulstein.
Five Lady T players scored in double digits, led by Wagner with 18 points on her 7-of-8 field goals and 3-of-4 3-pointers. BreeAna Olson added 17 points (8-of-10 field goals). Kendra Lindblad scored 15 points off the bench (6-of-10 field goals and 3-of-4 3-pointers). Madison Walford tallied 12 points. Kelsey Little had 11 points (7-of-8 free-throws).
Sharee Galbraith grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for Dakota State. Wagner added six rebounds.
Galbraith dished out four assists for DSU. Hulstein, Lindblad, Lindsey Vogl and Jordan Hansen each had three assists. Olson and Lindblad each had three steals.Â
Jaylen Newman poured in 33 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Trinity Bible. She was 14-of-22 from the field and 3-of-6 from the 3-point line. Janae Droste added 11 points.
Droste and Lauren Fischer each had six rebounds for the Lions. Rebecca Olson and SaraLi Peterson each produced four assists. Ruthie Rivera stole the ball three times.Â
Dakota State shot 48.1 percent overall from the field, making 37 baskets in 77 attempts. Trinity Bible was 39.3 percent shooting (24-of-61) and 6-of-18 from the 3-point line.Â
DSU was 12-of-15 free-throws (80 percent) and TBC 6-of-10 from the free-throw line.
The Lady T's outrebounded the Lions 46-34 in the game. DSU scored 52 points inside the paints compared to TBC 20 points.Â
Dakota State heads on the road for a Thanksgiving classic in Orange City, Iowa next weekend. The Lady T's face a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference foes in the Northwestern (Iowa) Classic, starting with the host-team Red Raiders on Friday, Nov. 27. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Bultman Center. DSU plays No. 15 College of Saint Mary (Neb.) on Saturday, Nov. 28.
