Comets complete season series sweep over Lady T's

MAYVILLE, N.D. – Mayville State (N.D.) was red-hot shooting from the field, shooting 55.2 percent overall in the game Wednesday evening in a 98-84 North Star Athletic Association Women's Basketball conference victory over Dakota State (S.D.) at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.  The Comets completed a season series sweep over the Lady T's.

Dakota State fell to 11-15 overall record and 2-5 NSAA conference record (tied for fourth-place in the NSAA conference standings with Dickinson State, N.D.).  Mayville State improved to 15-6 overall record and 4-3 NSAA (sole possession for third place in the NSAA standings).

Leading 13-10 in the early going, the Comets outscored the Lady T's 21-4 to expand MSU's lead to 34-14 with less than eight minutes in the first-half.

Mayville State shot a sizzling 62.1 percent from the field in the first-half (18-of-29 field goals), racing to a 52-30 halftime advantage.  The Comets also nailed down 12 free-throws in 17 attempts.  DSU was held to 30 percent shooting (12-of-40) and 4-of-7 free-throws in the first twenty minutes of the game.

The Comets maintained control for the rest of the game with the double-digits lead in the second-half.  The Lady T's could get no closer than 13 points on four different occasions in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Dakota State outscored Mayville State 54-46 in the second-half.

Erin Rabenberg scored a career-high 23 points for the Lady T's.  She was 9-of-19 from the field and made both free-throw attempts.  Madison Walford added 10 points.  BreeAna Olson, Courtney Hulstein and Jordan Hansen each tallied nine points.  Summer Bailey and Kennedy Wagner each scored seven points off the bench.

Jayda Swenson grabbed five rebounds for DSU.  Rabenberg and Wagner each had four rebounds.

Walford, Kendra Lindblad and Hansen each produced four assists for Dakota State.  Rabenberg and Hulstein each had three assists.  Hansen stole the ball three times in the game.

Four MSU players scored in double digits, led by Andi Gayner with 23 points (9-of-16 field goals and 5-of-8 free-throws).  Liza Hoglo added 17 points off the bench.  She was 3-of-5 from the field and converted 11 free-throws in 17 attempts.  Alyssa Lentner had 17 points.  Jenna Lundon scored 16 points.

Hoglo earned nine rebounds for the Comets.  Lentner and Joelle Ertl each had eight rebounds.

Lundon, Lentner, Ertl, Karleigh Weber and Hoglo each dished out three assists for Mayville State.

The Comets were 32-of-58 from the field and 8-for-18 from the 3-point line.  The Lady T's shot 36.6 percent from the field (30-of-82) and 8-of-30 from the 3-point range.

MSU went to the free-throw line 36 times, making 26 free-throws (72.2 percent).  DSU was 16-of-21 free-throws (76.2 percent).

Mayville State outrebounded the Lady T's 46-31.

Dakota State returns home Saturday afternoon as they continue their NSAA conference action.  The Lady T's host the NSAA's co-leader Valley City State (N.D.) at DSU Fieldhouse.  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. in Madison, S.D.
