Trojan Softball could not halt Jimmies? winning streak

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) was unable to stop Jamestown's (N.D.) winning streak Sunday afternoon in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Softball conference doubleheader at Lyle Lawrence Field.  The Jimmies extended their winning streak to 14 games after sweeping the Trojans 9-1 in six innings and 10-0 in five innings, completing a four-game series sweep.

Dakota State fell to 1-24 overall record.  The Trojans are searching for their first victory in the NSAA conference after 10 games.  Jamestown raised their overall record to 25-10 and retained the sole possession for first place in the NSAA standings with a three-game lead over second-place Dickinson State (N.D.).

Game 1 – Jamestown (N.D.) 9, Dakota State (S.D.) 1 – FINAL/6 innings

The Jimmies scored at least a run in the first three innings of the game, racing to a 6-0 lead.  UJ went on to end the game in the bottom sixth frame with two outs for a 9-1 victory over the Trojans.

Rylee Perez hit a triple with one out for UJ.  Emily Newman produced an RBI double to score Perez to give Jamestown a 1-0 lead.  The Jimmies made it 2-0 lead after Emily Snow hit an RBI single to score Newman.

Perez blasted a 3-run home run in the bottom second inning, extending Jamestown's lead to 5-0.

UJ made it a six-run lead as Brook Rheault hit an RBI single in the bottom third.

After a pair of scoreless fourth and fifth innings, Dakota State ended their scoring drought with a run scored in the top sixth.  The Trojans kicked off with three straight singles by Erica Belter, Lexy Miller and Sara Erickson.

DSU's Elizabeth Rubalcava reached on base by a fielder's choice (Belter was out at home) in the bottom third frame, Brittany Hill reached safely on first after a defensive miscue by the Jimmies.  The Trojans trimmed UJ's lead to 6-1.  Dakota State was unable to add more runs as they left three runners on base.

The Jimmies scored three times in the bottom sixth inning.  With two outs and a runner on second base, Hanna Dunnigan hit an RBI single to score Emma Keller.  The game ended when Jessica Snow hit a 2-RBI double to score Newman (recorded a single) and Dunnigan.

Miller collected two singles in the game for the Trojans.  Hill added a single and an RBI.  Erickson, Harley Lindell and Belter each had a hit.

Perez had a home run and triple with three RBIs for the Jimmies.  Newman added a double, two singles and an RBI.  Jessica Snow had a double, single and tallied three RBIs.  Sydney Greenlund had two hits.

UJ outhit DSU 12-6 in the game.  The Jimmies left six runners on while the Trojans had five runners left on base.

Ellie Kristensen (1-14) took the loss on the pitching mound for DSU.  She tossed 5 2/3 innings and allowed nine runs (two unearned) on 12 hits.  Kristensen struck out six Jimmies' batters.

Dunnigan (11-3) pitched a complete game victory for UJ.  She pitched six innings and allowed an unearned run on six hits.  Dunnigan recorded nine strikeouts from the pitching mound.

Game 2 – Jamestown (N.D.) 10, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL/5 innings

Jamestown used a pair of big offensive innings to complete the NSAA Softball's four-game series sweep.  UJ scored three times in the bottom second inning for a 3-0 lead.

The Jimmies exploded for seven hits in the bottom fourth inning to extend their lead to 10-0. 

DSU left a runner on base when the game ended in the fifth inning.

Lindell was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and single for Dakota State.  Ariana Duran added a hit.

Brook Rheault was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two singles and an RBI for UJ.  Greenlund had two hits and two RBIs.  Sydney Jeffers, Sarah Money, Perez, Newman and Dunnigan each had a hit.

Jamestown had 12 hits in the game compared to Dakota State three hits. 

UJ left seven runners on base while DSU had four runners left on base.

Shai-Lee Hill (0-8) recorded the loss on the pitching mound for the Trojans.  She worked for four innings and allowed 10 runs (5 unearned) on 12 hits.

Brittany Rheault (12-3) earned the victory for the Jimmies.  She tossed five innings and gave up three hits.  She recorded nine strikeouts in the game.

Dakota State looks to end their losing skid as they return home Thursday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader versus Dordt (Iowa) at Thue Softball Complex.  The first game of the doubleheader kicks off at 4 p.m.
