OMAHA – Dakota State (S.D.) snapped their five-match losing skid Saturday as they bounced back in the winning column with a pair of victories on the second day of College of Saint Mary (Neb.)/Grace (Neb.) Volleyball tournament at Lied Fitness Center. The Trojans defeated York (Neb.) 25-16, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-21 and added another four-set victory over Southwestern (Kan.) 25-15, 22-25, 25-13 and 25-13.
Dakota State improved their overall record to 6-9. York was 6-9 overall record, while Southwestern was 4-7 overall record.
Dakota State (S.D.) 3, York (Neb.) 1 – FINAL
Dakota State recorded a hitting percentage of .234 compared to York .132 hitting efficiency to snap their losing skid with a four-set victory.
The Trojans opened up with a 25-16 first set victory after holding the Panthers' to minus .073 hitting percentage (6 kills with 9 errors in 41 attempts). DSU hit .182 with 10 kills and 4 errors in 33 attempts.
York won the second set 25-22, tying the match at 1-1. Dakota State struggled with a .030 hitting percentage (9 kills with 8 errors in 33 attempts) while YC had a hitting efficiency of .243 (14 kills with 5 errors in 37 attempts).
DSU hit an impressive .410 to cruise for a 25-15 third set victory and a 2-1 match lead. The Trojans smashed 17 kills and just committed 1 attack error in 39 attempts.
Dakota State held on to a 25-21 fourth set victory, securing a 3-1 match win.
Tessa Weeldreyer led the Trojans' offense attack with 13 kills and .357 hitting percentage. Carly Rozell added 12 kills. She had a career-high five service aces. Kirstin Johnson recorded eight kills, while Alicia Karst had seven kills.
Kaylee Vander Wal produced 20 set assists for Dakota State. Rachel Johnson posted her fourth double-double with 16 assists and 13 digs.
Chelsey Davis collected a career-high 31 digs and two service aces for DSU. Allison Thielsen and Hannah Bauer each had eight digs.
Weeldreyer recorded three block assists for the Trojans. Kirstin Johnon, Rozell and Kylie Martin each had two block assists.
Nicole Gates had 13 kills for the Panthers. Halie Ewing recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs. Melanie Baxa also had a double-double, producing 36 assists and 11 digs.
Kylie Wroot had 17 digs for York. Kelsey Taylor added 14 digs. Kayliana Rodriguez had four block assists.
DSU outhit York 49-44 in the match. The Panthers committed 23 errors in 159 attempts while the Trojans committed 16 errors in 141 attempts.
Dakota State (S.D.) 3, Southwestern (Kan.) 1 – FINAL
Dakota State made it two straight victories after another four-set victory over Moundbuilders in the final match of the CSM/Grace volleyball tournament.
DSU dominated the first set after hitting .320 with 11 kills and 3 errors in 25 attempts.
Southwestern tied the match at 1-1 after winning the second set 25-22. Both teams struggled in hitting with the SWC hitting .000 (13 kills with 13 errors in 55 attempts) while DSU hit a negative .042 (5 kills with 7 errors in 48 attempts).
The Trojans cruised past the Moundbuilders with a pair of 25-13 scores for a 3-1 victory. Dakota State hit .324 in the third set, while holding Southwestern's hitting percentage to negative .267 in the fourth set.
Rozell led DSU with 10 kills and three service aces. Kirstin Johnson added eight kills. Weeldreyer and McKenzie Werner each had six kills.
Rachel Johnson earned 15 assists and 7 digs for Dakota State. Vander Wal had 11 assists and 8 digs.
Davis tallied 17 digs for the Trojans. Thielsen had 12 digs.
Weeldreyer accumulated a total of eight block assists and a solo block for Dakota State. Martin added four block assists and a solo block. Kirstin Johnson, Karst and Rozell each had three block assists.
Katy Rhodd and Briley Ware each had seven kills for the Moundbuilders. Brittaney Craddock, Ashton Isch and Abby Warnke each added six kills.
Jacqueline Erlanson recorded a double-double of 12 assists and 10 digs for SWC. Rachel Harper added 19 assists.
Dakota State outhit Southwestern 38-34 in the match. The Trojans hit .151 with 17 attack errors in 139 attempts. DSU held the Moundbuilders to minus .013 hitting efficiency, committing 36 attack errors in 151 attempts.
The Trojans had 13 blocks in the match compared to SWC 8 blocks.
Dakota State looks to extend their winning streak Tuesday as they visit their in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.). There will be a junior varsity match at 6 p.m., followed by a varsity match at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will be held at the Cimpl Arena in Yankton, S.D.
