FOREST CITY, Iowa – Dakota State (S.D.) and Waldorf (Iowa) met for the second time in six days Tuesday evening in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Basketball conference game at Hanson Fieldhouse. The Lady T's used a monstrous start and never trailed in the game, propelling to a 101-62 victory over the Warriors. It was the first time in Lady T's basketball team history that DSU scored over 100 points in a NSAA conference game.
Dakota State raised their overall record to 11-7 and is one of the six NSAA schools with an undefeated conference record in the conference standings. The Lady T's are in a three-way tie for first-place with a 3-0 record with Mayville State (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.). Waldorf suffered their 12th straight defeat, dipping their overall record to 1-16 and 0-9 NSAA conference.
The Lady T's opened up the game by making 12 field goals in 15 attempts and forced Waldorf into eight turnovers – with four steals coming from DSU's BreeAna Olson – for a 27-10 lead with two minutes and forty-five seconds on the clock in the first period.
Dakota State led 29-16 after the first quarter, thanks to seven different Lady T that scored in the opening quarter.
DSU shot a blazing 52.5 percent (21-of-40) in the first-half, en routing to a 51-27 commanding lead over the Warriors at halftime. The Warriors were held to 34.5 percent shooting in the first twenty minutes of the game (10-of-29).
Dakota State outscored Waldorf 33-7 in the third quarter as the Lady T's lead grew to 84-34.
DSU started the fourth quarter with a 5-0 lead for the biggest lead of the game at 89-34 with 9:10 remaining.
The Lady T's shot 60.6 percent in the second-half by making 20 field goals in 33 tries compared to the Warriors 35 percent (14-of-40 field goals).
Five players scored in double digits for Dakota State, led by Kendra Lindblad with 18 points (7-of-12 field goals and 4-of-7 3-point field goals). Olson and Kennedy Wagner each added 14 points. Kelsey Little scored 13 points off the bench (6-of-8 field goals).
Sharee Galbraith tallied 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and recorded five blocked shots in the game for the Lady T's. She also dished out four assists.
Madison Walford had eight points for DSU. Courtney Hulstein and Cassie Jones each scored seven points.
Little earned six rebounds for Dakota State. Lindblad, Olson and Wagner each produced five assists. Olson stole the ball five times.
Ameh Ogbemudia posted a double-double of 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for Waldorf. Samantha Birkes added 10 points, dished out eight assists and recorded five steals.
Kassidy Bunger and Meriel Leavy each earned six rebounds for the Warriors.
Dakota State shot a season-high 56.2 percent overall from the field (41-of-73). Waldorf was 34.8 percent overall from the field (24-of-69).   The Lady T's were 8-of-21 from the 3-point arc (38.1 percent), while the Warriors were 4-of-17 3-pointers (23.5 percent).Â
Both went to the free-throw line 13 times, with DSU making 11 free-throws and WC 10 free-throws.
The Lady T's outrebounded the Warriors 42-39. DSU outscored WC 54-34 inside the paint, 27-12 in points off turnovers and 42-15 in bench points.
DSU posted season-highs in points (101), field goal percentage (56.2 percent) and assists (28).
Dakota State continues their six-game road trip on Sunday afternoon as they visit the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball's defending champion and top-ranked Morningside (Iowa). The final non-conference tune-up is set for 4 p.m. at RSVC-Allee Gym in Sioux City, Iowa.
