No. 22-ranked Jimmies halt Trojans? winning streak

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Nationally-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) stopped Dakota State's (S.D.) winning streak Saturday afternoon at Hansen Center, recording a three-set sweep over the Trojans in the North Star Athletic Association conference battle.  The Jimmies posted scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-23.

Dakota State's three-match winning streak came to an end, falling to 5-13 overall record 1-3 NSAA conference record.  Jamestown, ranked No. 22 in the NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, raised their overall record to 12-6 and 4-1 NSAA.

Knotted at 14-14 in the opening set, the Jimmies used a 7-2 scoring run to open up a five-point lead at 22-17.  The Jimmies won the first set by the score of 25-20.  The Trojans outhit the Jimmies 11-8 in the opening set, while DSU hit .214 (5 errors in 28 attempts) compared to UJ .111 hitting percentage (5 errors in 27 attempts).

After being tied at 3-3, Jamestown closed the second set with a 22-10 run for a 25-13 win to earn a 2-0 match lead.  The Jimmies hit .357 in the second set (13 kills with 3 errors in 28 attempts), while the Trojans were held to .080 hitting percentage (7 kills with 5 errors in 25 attempts).

Trailing 24-19 in the third set, the Trojans scored four straight points to cut UJ's lead to 24-23 but fell short.  The Jimmies sealed the match after a kill by Aubrey Beaumont to grab a 25-23 third set victory.  UJ outhit DSU 15-14 in the third set, but the Trojans hit better with a hitting efficiency of .294 (4 errors in 34 attempts) compared to the Jimmies' .270 hitting percentage (5 errors in 37 attempts).

Clarissa Blick led the Trojans' offense attack with 12 kills and hit .357 in the match.  Carly Rozell added eight kills and recorded a hitting percentage of .389.  Taylor Stratton had five kills.

Kaylee Vander Wal collected 14 set assists for DSU.  McKenna DeMoe added 11 digs. 

Chelsey Davis tallied 10 digs and a service ace for Dakota State.  Tessa Weeldreyer recorded three solo blocks. 

Siri Jystad had nine kills for the Jimmies.  Kaitlin Anderson added six kills and three block assists.  Beaumont produced 15 assists, while Whitney King had 14 assists.  King recorded three service aces.

Nicole Warren registered 14 digs and two service aces for UJ.  Julina Niemeier added 10 digs and a service ace.  Haley Glasoe led the Jimmies with four block assists. 

Jamestown outhit Dakota State 36-32 in the match.  The Jimmies hit .250 (13 errors in 92 attempts) compared to the Trojans' .207 hitting percentage (14 errors in 87 attempts). 

UJ had nine service aces compared to the Trojans one ace.  The Jimmies recorded 53 digs while the Trojans had 33 digs. 

Dakota State looks to bounce back in the winning column as they kick off their three-match NSAA home stand at DSU Fieldhouse, starting Wednesday evening versus Presentation (S.D.).  First serve is set for 7 p.m.
