JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Nationally-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) never trailed in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Basketball conference action versus Dakota State (S.D.) Sunday afternoon at the Civic Center, cruising to an 88-45 victory.
Dakota State is 1-8 overall record and 0-2 NSAA conference record. Jamestown, ranked No. 10 in the first edition of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, lifted their overall record to 7-2 and 2-0 NSAA record.
The Jimmies raced to a 7-0 opening lead. The Lady T's snapped their three-minute scoring drought with a field goal by Britley Plautz (UJ leads 7-2). DSU then trimmed Jamestown's lead to 7-4 after a basket by BreeAna Olson with 5:24 left in the first period.
UJ led 17-8 after the first quarter. Both teams struggled from the field as the Jimmies shot 6-of-16 (37.5 percent) and the Lady T's were 30.8 percent from the field (4-of-13).
Jamestown outscored Dakota State 31-11 in the last ten minutes of the first-half, extending their lead to 48-19 by halftime. UJ shot 11-of-15 from the field in the second quarter while DSU was 4-of-15 from the field.
The Jimmies maintained control their rest of the game, outscoring the Lady T's 40-26 in the second-half.
Kennedy Wagner led Dakota State with eight points. Jamie Tebben, Olson and Shemika Frazier each added six points. Jordan Hansen scored five points off the bench. Plautz, Shelby Vogel and Kelley Criddle each tallied four points.
Olson pulled down five rebounds for the Lady T's. Plautz, Hansen and Criddle each had four rebounds.
Wagner, Olson, Frazier and Hansen each produced two assists. Olson stole the ball two times. Plautz recorded two blocked shots.
Taylor Hammer posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Jimmies. Kyra Dewald added 15 points. Alexis Watts had 14 points.
Bryn Woodside dished out four assists and stole the ball three times for UJ. Allison Jablonsky added three assists. Jenna Doyle had eight rebounds and four blocks.
Jamestown shot 42.3 percent overall from the field, converting 30 baskets in 71 attempts. Dakota State was 18-of-58 from the field (31 percent). The Jimmies made 10 3-pointers in 20 attempts (50 percent), while the Lady T's were 2-of-10 3-pointers.
UJ made 18-of-23 free-throws (78.3 percent). DSU was 7-of-11 from the free-throw line (63.6 percent).
Jamestown outrebounded Dakota State 46-37. The Jimmies outscored the Lady T's 19-3 in second-chance points.
Dakota State continues their North Star Athletic Association conference action on the road Friday evening. The Lady T's return back to North Dakota with a conference game at Valley City State (N.D.). Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City, N.D.
