No. 8 Jamestown (N.D.) cruises past Lady T's

MADISON, S.D. – Nationally-ranked No. 8 Jamestown (N.D.) had four players in double figures Wednesday evening in cruising past Dakota State (S.D.) 71-45 in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference action at DSU Fieldhouse.

Dakota State fell to 14-14 overall record and 6-6 NSAA conference record, remaining in a tie for fourth-place in the NSAA conference standings after Mayville State (N.D.) lost to Valley City State (N.D.) 82-74 Wednesday.  Jamestown, who already clinched their third straight NSAA conference regular-season title last Saturday, recorded their 11th straight win – all NSAA conference games – to raise their overall record to 25-4.

The Lady T's and Jimmies opened the game with four lead changes.  After Kelley Criddle made a basket with 3:24 left on the clock in the first quarter for an 8-7 DSU lead, UJ closed the first quarter with a 10-2 run for a 17-10 lead.  Jamestown went 6-of-13 from the field – with four of those field goals from the 3-point line.  Dakota State was 5-of-12 field goals and did not make a 3-pointer in the opening period.

The Jimmies opened the second quarter with an 8-0 lead to extend their lead to 25-10 after a 3-poitner by Kaeli Kraska with 7:11 on the clock. 

Dakota State trimmed UJ's lead down to 31-23 by halftime.  The Jimmies shot 50 percent in the first-half (12-of-24) and drained six 3-pointers in 14 attempts (42.9 percent) compared to the Lady T's 37 percent (10-of-27) and 1-of-3 3-pointers.

UJ outscored DSU 24-9 in the third quarter to expand their lead to 55-32 and never looked back.

Jamestown shot 46.2 percent from the field in the final twenty minutes (12-of-26) and went 15-of-24 from the free-throw line.  Dakota State was 33.3 percent from the field (7-of-21) and 8-of-10 free-throws.

Madison Walford led the Lady T's with 15 points off the bench.  She was 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 free-throws.  Sharee Galbraith and Criddle each added eight points.  Kelsey Little scored four points.

Galbraith and Walford each earned seven rebounds for DSU.  Kendra Lindblad dished out three assists.  Galbraith, Courtney Hulstein and Kennedy Wagner each had two assists.

Hulstein stole the ball two times for Dakota State.  Lindblad, Cassie Jones and Walford each recorded a block.

Kyra Dewald led the Jimmies with 14 points.  Taylor Hammer scored 13 points and pulled down 7 rebounds off the bench.  Jessica Buck and Kraska (made 4 3-pointers) each added 12 points.

Buck, Alexis Watts and Bryn Woodside each collected four rebounds for UJ.  Dewald recorded six steals in the game.  Buck had three blocked shots.

Jamestown shot 48 percent overall in the game (24-of-50) compared to Dakota State 35.4 percent (17-of-48).  The Jimmies knocked down 7 3-pointers in 22 attempts (31.8 percent) while the Lady T's were 1-of-6 3-pointers (16.7 percent).

UJ went to the free-throw line 27 times, making 16 free-throws (59.3 percent).  DSU was 10-of-13 free-throws (76.9 pecent).

The Jimmies outrebounded the Lady T's 37-29.  Both teams scored 11 points in second-chance points.

Dakota State concludes their three-game home stand with a regular-season finale game against another ranked opponent, No. 25 Dickinson State (N.D.).  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.  Seniors Night ceremony will be held after the completion of the women's game.

Jamestown stays on the road Saturday afternoon as they visit Mayville State in the regular-season finale.
