No. 8 Jimmies hand Lady T's fourth straight NSAA conference defeat

JAMESTOWN (N.D.) – North Star Athletic Association's (NSAA) conference leader and nationally-ranked No. 8 Jamestown (N.D.) held off Dakota State (S.D.) 67-42 in women's basketball action Wednesday evening at Civic Center.  Despite the loss, the Lady T's held the Jimmies to their lowest points in the first-half (29) and total points (67) during NSAA conference regular-season play this season.

Dakota State lost their fourth straight NSAA conference game, falling to 12-12 overall record and 4-4 NSAA conference record.  Jamestown raised their overall record to 21-4 and remained undefeated conference play with a 7-0 record.

DSU grabbed their first lead of the game at 2-0 after a basket by Sharee Galbraith (assisted by Courtney Hulstein) with nine minutes and fourteen seconds on the clock in the first period.

The Jimmies answered with an 8-0 run of its own for 8-2 lead, forcing the Lady T's to call timeout with 5:12 left in the opening quarter.

UJ held on for a 14-5 lead after the first quarter, despite shooting 27.8 percent from the field (5-of-18).  The Jimmies forced DSU into 11 turnovers in the first quarter.

Jamestown held on to a 29-18 halftime advantage.  Dakota State shot 7-of-20 from the field (35 percent) while holding the Jimmies to 30.6 percent shooting from the field (11-of-36). 

UJ outscored DSU 38-24 in the second-half to secure the victory.

Galbraith led the Lady T's with 10 points (4-of-7 from the field and 2-of-2 free-throws) and pulled down 8 rebounds.  She had four blocked shots in the game.  Kendra Lindblad scored seven points off the bench (3-of-6 field goals).  Kennedy Wagner and Kelsey Little each added six points.

Little and Wagner each recorded four rebounds for DSU.  Wagner dished out four assists.  Jordan Hansen had three assists.

Galbraith stole the ball three times for Dakota State.  Hulstein and Cassie Jones each had two steals.

Jessica Buck scored a game-high 19 points and earned 9 rebounds for the Jimmies.  Kyra Dewald added nine points and produced five assists.  McKayla Orr and Kaeli Kraska each had eight points.

Orr had seven rebounds for UJ.  Bryn Woodside and Makenzie Bebo each had four assists.  Taylor Hammer stole the ball five times. 

Jamestown shot 33.8 percent from the field, converting 23-of-68 field goals.  Dakota State was 33.3 percent from the field (13-of-39).  UJ was 7-of-29 3-pointers (24.1 percent) compared to DSU 1-of-8 3-pionters (12.5 percent).

Both teams went to the free-throw line 18 times, with the Lady T's making 15 free-throws compared to Jimmies 14 free-throws.

Jamestown outrebound Dakota State 39-33 in the game.  The Jimmies outscored the Lady T's 15-5 in second-chance points.

UJ outscored DSU 29-11 in points off turnovers.  DSU's bench scored 20 points while UJ's bench had 18 points.

Dakota State looks to snap their losing skid as they return home Saturday afternoon to kick off the second-half portion of the NSAA conference schedule.  The Lady T's close out their regular-season by playing four of the last five games at DSU Fieldhouse, starting with Presentation (S.D.) on Saturday.  Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. as part of 'Merica Night.
