Bruins shut down Trojans, ends season at NSAA Softball Postseason Tournament

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Fourth-seeded Bellevue (Neb.) and eighth-seeded Dakota State (S.D.) met in the first loser's out game in Bracket A of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Softball Postseason Tournament after dropping a 1-0 decision in the opening round.  The Bruins cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Trojans at Players Softball Complex, ending Dakota State's season at an overall record of 8-30.

The Bruins earned its first run of the game in the bottom second inning, earning a 1-0 lead.  Madde Siedlik hit an RBI single to score Emily Gigax, who led off with a double.

BU continued its scoring surge with four runs scored in the fourth inning, highlighted by pinch hitter Courtney Schendt's 3-run home run.  Kayla Young also added an RBI sacrifice fly to score Emily Miller who hit a single followed by Erin Sharpe's double (5-0 BU lead).

The Bruins added two doubles in the bottom sixth inning, producing two more runs for a 7-0 lead.  Siedlik and Miller both hit double, while Young added an RBI single to expand Bellevue's lead up by seven runs.

Siedlik and Gigax each collected three hits for the Bruins.  Schnedt had a home run and drove in three runs.  Miller, Sharpe, and Kaitlyn Goney each added two hits. 

Bellevue outhit Dakota State 14-4 in the game.

BU's Kelli Fisher (W 21-12) tossed a complete game victory on the pitching mound, limiting the Trojans to four hits. 

April Pisk tallied a double for the Trojans.  Peyton Brokiewicz, Kayla Schmell, Elizabeth Rubalcava each had a hit.

Audrey Kosman (L, 4-16) recorded the loss after pitching six innings in the circle for Dakota State.  She allowed seven runs on 14 hits.

It was the final career collegiate softball game for four Trojan seniors – Ariana Duran, Shai-Lee Hill, Harley Lindell and Elizabeth Rubalcava,
