Jimmies roll past Lady T's in NSAA Women's Basketball opener

MADISON, S.D. – Nationally-ranked No. 8 Jamestown (N.D.) never trailed in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Basketball conference season opener Friday evening, rolling past Dakota State (S.D.) 101-54 at DSU Fieldhouse.

The Lady T's dropped their fifth straight game, falling to 3-8 overall record and 0-1 NSAA conference record.  The Jimmies, defending North Star conference champion, won their sixth straight game to lift their overall record to 10-2 and 1-0 NSAA record.

Jamestown opened up the game with a 3-pointer by McKala Orr for a 3-0 lead with 9 minutes, 24 seconds on the clock.  Dakota State made their first field goal by Britley Plautz with 8:18 in the first quarter (DSU trailed 3-2).

The Jimmies went on to score six straight points before the Lady T's ended their scoring drought with a basket by Alexis Evans.  After Evans' basket, UJ used their first timeout of the game as they maintained their lead at 9-4 with 6:32 to go in the first period.

Jamestown scored 15 consecutive points following the timeout, increasing their lead to 24-4 with 3:25 to go and forced Dakota State to use their timeout.

UJ shot a blazing 68.2 percent from the field (15-of-22) in the opening period, racing to a 36-12 lead over DSU.  DSU was held to 4-of-11 field goals (36.4 percent), but committed eight turnovers.

The Jimmies outscored the Lady T's 20-13 in the second quarter for a 56-25 halftime lead.  UJ shot 23-of-41 from the field (56.1 percent) in the first twenty minutes compared to DSU 8-of-23 field goals (8-of-23 field goals).

Jamestown took an 81-44 lead after the third period and outscored DSU 20-10 in the final quarter to secure the win.

Raven Patton led the Lady T's with 11 points off the bench, going 5-of-7 from the field.  Plautz added 10 points.  Leah Marsh had nine points.  Lindsey Vogl scored seven points.

Plautz grabbed six rebounds for DSU.  Patton and Evans each added five rebounds.  Platuz, Cassie Jones, Patton and Evans each recorded a block. 

Shelby Vogel, Jamie Tebben and Kennedy Wagner each dished out two assists for Dakota State.  Tebben, Plautz, Vogl, Jones, Patton, Cassie Hand and Evans each had a steal.

Thirteen (13) different players scored in the game for the Jimmies, led by Jory Mullen with 18 points (7-of-11 field goals).  Allison Jablonsky and Marina Nowak each added 11 points.  Courtney Mosloski tallied 10 points.  Jenna Doyle and Bryn Woodside each had eight points.

Mosloski earned nine rebounds for UJ.  Doyle, Jablonsky and Nowak each had five rebounds.  Doyle registered a game-high seven blocks.

Woodside and Mackensi Higlin each produced four assists for Jamestown.  Orr, Paige Emmel and Schmidt each had three assists.  Orr stole the ball four times, while Woodside had three steals.

Jamestown shot 49.4 percent overall from the field (40-of-81) compared to Dakota State 38 percent (19-of-50).  The Jimmies drained 11-of-29 3-poinetrs (37.9 percent), while the Lady T's were 2-of-9 3-pointers (22.2 percent).

DSU was 14-of-18 from the free-throw line (77.8 percent).  UJ was 10-of-15 free-throws (66.7 percent).

Jamestown won the rebounding battle, outrebounding Dakota State 45-31.  The Jimmies outscored the Lady T's 23-5 in second-chance points. 

UJ had 25 assists and 18 steals in the game compared to DSU 10 assists and 7 steals.

Dakota State looks to snap their losing streak as they continue their six-game home stand Sunday afternoon.  The Lady T's host Presentation (S.D.) in the North Star conference action.  Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse.

Jamestown stays on the road Saturday as they visit No. 16-ranked Mayville State (N.D.) in the early battle of NAIA Division II Top 25 teams.  The game is set for 3 p.m. at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville, N.D.
