No. 6 Jimmies dominate Lady T's in North Star conference action

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Basketball conference's leader No. 6-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) rolled past Dakota State (S.D.) Saturday by the score of 116-62 at Newman Arena.   The Lady T's trailed just six points after the first quarter, but the Jimmies exploded for 40 points in the second period to earn the victory.

Dakota State fell to 8-15 overall record and 5-5 record in North Star conference games (two-way tie for fifth-place in the conference standings with Presentation, S.D.).  Jamestown extended their winning streak to 16 games, raising their overall record to 20-2 and remained undefeated in North Star conference play with a 9-0 record.

DSU and UJ went through three ties and one lead change in the first period.  Trailing 17-8, the Lady T's stormed back by scoring 11 straight points to knot the game at 17-17 with less than two minutes on the clock.

Tied at 19-19, the Jimmies closed the first quarter with a 6-0 run to grab a 25-19 lead. 

Jamestown outscored Dakota State 40-16 in the second quarter, widening their lead to 65-35 by halftime.  The Jimmies were 15-of-21 from the field (71.4 percent) in the second period, while the Lady T's were just 4-of-9 from the field (44.4 percent).

UJ maintained their double digit lead for the rest of the game to secure the victory.  The Jimmies outscored the Lady T's 51-27 in the second-half.

Cassie Jones led the Lady T's with a career-high 18 points.  She was perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.  Raven Patton and Alexis Evans each added 11 points.  Jamie Tebben scored 10 points. 

Patton and Evans each pulled down five rebounds for DSU.  Kennedy Wagner and Cassie Hand each dished out two assists.  Jones and Shelby Vogel each recorded two steals.

Five UJ players scored in double figures, led by Marina Nowak with 18 points off the bench.  McKayla Orr added 15 points.  Paige Emmel had 14 points.  Courtney Mosloski scored 11 points.  Bryn Woodside had 10 points and four assists.

Jenna Doyle grabbed seven rebounds and registered three blocks for the Jimmies.  Orr and Nowak each had three steals. 

Jamestown shot 54.9 percent overall from the field (39-of-71) compared to Dakota State 32.7 percent (18-of-55).  The Jimmies drained 12 3-pointers in 30 attempts (40 percent), while the Lady T's were 2-of-11 3-pointers.

A total of 56 fouls were whistled in the game, with 30 fouls coming from the Jimmies and 26 fouls from the Lady T's.  DSU was 24-of-35 from the free-throw line (68.6 percent).  UJ was 26-of-34 free-throws (76.5 percent).

The Jimmies outrebounded the Lady T's 50-28 in the game.

Dakota State concludes their 6-game North Star road trip next weekend with a pair of games.  The Lady T's return back to North Dakota, visiting No. 19-ranked Valley City State (N.D.) on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m.  The game will be held at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City, N.D.

Next Saturday, DSU heads to Dickinson, N.D. to take on Dickinson State (N.D.).  The game is slated to start at 4 p.m. (Central Time)/3 p.m. (Mountain Time).
