MADISON, S.D. – No. 4-ranked Viterbo (Wis.) continued its North Star Athletic Association volleyball dominance, extending their NSAA conference winning streak to 47 matches after a 3-0 sweep over Dakota State (S.D.) Saturday afternoon at R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium. The V-Hawks won by the scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 32-30.
Dakota State dropped their second straight match, falling to 10-9 overall record and 3-4 record in North Star conference. Viterbo lifted their overall record to 19-4 and 7-0 NSAA conference record.
Both teams will meet for the second North Star conference meeting on their regular-season finale on Nov. 3.
FIRST SET
Viterbo raced to a 7-1 opening lead in the first set. Dakota State answered back with a 7-2 run to trim VU's lead to 9-8.
The V-Hawks took advantage of DSU's 11 attack errors to secure a 25-11 victory, ending the first set with a monstrous 16-3 scoring surge.
VU recorded a hitting percentage of .273 (8 kills with 2 errors in 22 swings) compared to DSU negative .167 (6 kills with 11 errors in 30 attempts).
SECOND SET
Viterbo used another strong opening run with a 7-1 run in the second set. Dakota State could get no closer than four points at 16-12, as the V-Hawks earned a 2-0 match lead after a 25-16 victory.
VU hit an impressive .313 hitting percentage (13 kills with 3 errors in 32 attempts). DSU was held to .122 hitting efficiency (11 kills with 6 errors in 41 swings).
THIRD SET
Trailing 16-10 in the third set, Dakota State stormed back by scoring seven straight points to earn a 17-16 lead. VU and DSU went through a see-saw battle from there, going through 13 ties until the 60th point of the third set (30-30).
The V-Hawks clinched the match after scoring the final two points after a service error by the Trojans and a kill by Aubrey Aspen for a 32-30 thrilling victory.
DSU outhit VU 19-16 in the third set. The Trojans hit .182 (9 errors in 55 attempts) compared to the V-Hawks .160 (8 errors in 50 attempts).
Dakota State is the first team to score 30 points in a set against Viterbo since Oct. 10, 2015 versus Huntington (Ind.).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Barbara Briceno posted a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs for Dakota State. Samantha Zell added 10 kills. Maddie Polzin smashed seven kills. Kaylee Spreier added six kills.
Nicole Sarringar contributed 15 set assists for the Trojans. Rachel Johnson added 13 assists.
Alwaise Villa led DSU's defense with a match-high 14 digs. Spreier had two block assists. Spreier, Villa and Sarringar each registered a service ace.
Aspen led the V-Hawks with 12 kills and .407 hitting percentage. She also had four block assists and a solo block. Miah Garant added eight kills. Chloe Jakscht had 21 set assists.
Jenna Phillips recorded 11 digs for VU. Jenna Phillips added 10 digs. Hannah Erickson had five service aces.
Viterbo hit .231 in the match (37 kills with 13 errors in 104 swings). Dakota State hit .079 (36 kills with 26 errors in 126 attempts).
The V-Hawks had eight team blocks compared to the Trojans four team blocks.

Dakota State stays on the road Tuesday as they begin their second-half portion of the North Star conference schedule. The Trojans face another nationally-ranked team, No. 20 Bellevue (Neb.). First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at Gordon Lozier Athletic Center in Bellevue, Neb.
