Vikings defeat Lady T's in exhibition game

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – NCAA Division II Augustana (S.D.) opened up with a 28-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back for an 87-41 victory over Dakota State (S.D.) in women's basketball action at Elmen Center.  It was an exhibition game for the Lady T's.

The Vikings remained undefeated in four games this season (4-0 overall record).

AU scored the game's first five points for a 5-0 lead with eight minutes and seventeen seconds on the clock.  DSU cut the Vikings' lead to 5-2 after Ashlyn Macdonald's basket with 7:02 left in the opening period.

The Vikings scored nine straight points to widen their lead to 14-2 with 5:15 on the clock in first.

Augustana went 13-of-21 from the field (61.9 percent) in the first-quarter to grab a 24-point lead.  Dakota State was held to 2-of-15 field goals (13.3 percent).

The Vikings outscored the Lady T's 21-11 in the second period to earn a 49-15 lead.

Dakota State ended the game by outscoring Augustana 26-11 in the fourth quarter.

Jessi Giles led DSU with 17 points, pulled down eight rebounds and stole the ball four times.  Macdonald added 10 points (4-of-4 from the field, including 2-of-2 from the 3-point arc) and four rebounds.  Madison Norris and Cheylee Nagel each dished out three assists. 

Abby Hora led the Vikings with 17 points.  Vishe Rabb added 14 points off the bench.  Shelby Selland had 10 points.  Izzy VanVelduizen had six assists.  Camryn Hay grabbed seven rebounds.  Hana Metoxen registered six steals.

Auguatana shot 46.7 percent from the field (35-of-75) compared to Dakota State 26.7 percent (16-of-60 field goals).  AU was 7-of-19 3-pointers, while DSU was 8-of-30 from the 3-point line. 

The Vikings outrebounded the Lady T's 45-40.

Dakota State heads back in regular-season action on Tuesday evening, hosting Dordt (Iowa) in a non-conference contest.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at DSU Fieldhouse in Madison.
