Hardrockers roll past Lady T's in exhibition contest

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) played its second exhibition game of the season against NCAA Division II member Monday evening.  The Lady T's visited their former long-time member of the South Dakota Intercollegiate (SDIC), South Dakota-Iowa Conference and Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) South Dakota Mines.  The Hardrockers rolled past the Lady T's by the score of 101-42.

Dakota State remains at 1-6 overall record.  South Dakota Mines lifted their overall record to 2-1.

The Hardrockers scored the game's first 16 points to grab a 16-0 lead with five minutes and seven seconds on the clock.  The Lady T's ended their scoring drought after a 3-pointer by McKenzie Hermanson with 4:51 left in the first period (DSU trailed 16-3).

SDM posted a 26-10 lead after the first quarter and stretched their lead to 55-22 by halftime.  South Dakota Mines outscored Dakota State 46-20 in the final twenty minutes of the game.

Hermanson led the Lady T's with 18 points off the bench on her 6-of-13 3-point field goals.  Cheylee Nagel added 10 points.  Jessi Giles scored nine points.  Aubrey Miedema had three points, while Cassie Hand scored two points.

Giles and Ashlyn Macdonald each pulled down three rebounds for DSU.  Hand had a block.  Nagel stole the ball twice.  Nagel, Giles, Hand, Macdonald, Hermanson, Midema and Madison Norris each registered an assist.

Six South Dakota Mines players scored in double-digits, led by Cooper Courtney with 17 points off the bench.  Michaela Shaklee added 15 points.  Taylor Molstad had 14 points.  Anna Haugen and Sami Steffeck each added 11 points.  Haugen had seven rebounds and four assists.

The Hardrockers shot a blazing 62.9 percent from the field (39-of-62) and held Lady T's to 28.3 percent from the field (15-of-53).  SDM drained 14 3-pointers in 23 attempts (60.9 percent) compared to DSU 10-of-34 3-pointers (29.4 percent).

Both teams converted all of their free-throws in the game (South Dakota Mines with nine free-throws and Dakota State with two free-throws).  SDM outrebounded DSU 31-17. 

Dakota State opens up their North Star Athletic Association conference play on Saturday, visiting Bellevue (Neb.).  Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. at Gordon Lozier Center in Bellevue.
