KYLE, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) raced to a 53-19 halftime advantage Monday evening, fueling to a 91-54 non-conference men's basketball road contest over Oglala Lakota (S.D.) at Multipurpose gym. The Trojans had 30 more rebounds than the Bravehearts in the game.
Dakota State bounced back in the winning column, lifting their overall record to 4-11. The Trojans recorded their third road victory this season.
The Trojans shot 51.4 percent from the field (18-of-35) in the first twenty minutes of the game, opening up a 34-point halftime lead. The Bravehearts were held to 26.5 percent field goal shooting (9-of-34 field goals) in the first-half.
DSU outscored OLC 39-35 in the final twenty minutes of the game secure the victory.
Justin Folkers paced the Trojans with 21 points on his 8-of-13 field goal shooting and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. Josh McGreal added 18 points (7-of-12 field goals). Carson Rentz scored 12 points. Will Parry tallied a season-high 11 points off the bench. Anthony Costello had eight points.
McGreal pulled down nine rebounds for Dakota State. Folkers added seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists. Cody Muilenburg had six rebounds and two block shots. Brady Elder contributed six assists. Rentz dished out five assists and stole the ball here times.
Carl Swallow and Shilo Tallman each scored 12 points for Oglala Lakota. Ryan Barker added 10 points and collected four rebounds.
DSU shot a blazing 54.7 percent from the field, making 35 baskets in 64 attempts. The Trojans drained 15 3-pointers in 27 tries. OLC was held to 27.3 percent from the field (18-of-66) and 4-of-11 from the 3-point line.
Oglala Lakota was 14-of-20 from the free-throw line (70 percent) compared to Dakota State 6-of-8 free-throws (75 percent).
The Trojans outrebounded the Bravehearts 53-23 in the game.
Dakota State comes back home Thursday evening. The Trojans host former conference foe Jamestown (N.D.) in a non-conference contest. Tip-off from the DSU Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m.
