SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) played their final women's basketball exhibition contest Tuesday evening, visiting former South Dakota Intercollegiate conference foe and NCAA Division II member Sioux Falls (S.D.). The Cougars rolled to a 94-40 victory over the Lady T's at Stewart Center.
Dakota State remains at 1-10 overall record. Sioux Falls improved to 8-3 overall record.
The Lady T's tied the game twice early in the game. Alexis Evans nailed down a basket for a 2-2 tie with nine minutes and twenty seconds on the clock. The second tie of the game came in after a field goal by Alexis Robson with 7:35 left in the first period.
Cassie Hand drained a 3-pointer as the Lady T's trimmed Cougars' lead to 8-7 by the first media timeout. USF went on a 14-2 outburst to close the first quarter to balloon their lead to 22-9.
Sioux Falls continued its scoring surge, outscoring Dakota State 29-7 in the second period to widen their lead to 51-16 by halftime. The Cougars secured the game by maintaining their double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
Evans paced the Lady T's with 10 points (3-of-6 field goals and 4-of-4 free-throws). Jessi Giles added eight points and pulled down six rebounds. Olivia Breske tallied seven points. McKenzie Hermanson scored six points.
DSU's Ashlyn Macdonald pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Evans added four rebounds and registered two blocks. Giles produced three assists.
Kaely Hummel poured in 20 points for the Cougars. Jasmin Harris added 14 points. Augusta Thramer dished out a game-high eight assists and grabbed five rebounds. Hannah Jones stole the ball four times.
USF shot 47.5 percent overall from the field (38-of-80) compared to Dakota State 29.2 percent (14-of-48). The Cougars drained 13 3-pointers in 32 tries while the Lady T's were 5-of-24 3-pointers.
Dakota State was perfect at the free-throw line, making all seven free-throws. Sioux Falls was 5-of-7 free-throws (71.4 percent).
USF outrebounded DSU 43-34. The Cougars outscored the Lady T's 44-18 inside the paint.
Dakota State will take a break during Christmas and return back to action next weekend in the two-day Pizza Ranch Women's Basketball Classic, hosted by Northwestern (Iowa). The Lady T's play a pair of nationally-ranked team, facing No. 13-ranked Dordt (Iowa) on Friday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. and host-team No. 5-ranked Northwestern on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. All games will be held at the Bultman Center on the campus of Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa.
