Trojans' comeback bid falls short to Saints in NSAA Baseball winner's bracket

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Anthony Guzman scored Johnny Radomskiy with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday afternoon as No. 4 seed Presentation (S.D.) scored a 7-6 walk-off victory over No. 8 seed Dakota State (S.D.) during winner's bracket play of the NSAA Baseball Championships.  The game was played at Charlie Brown Stadium.

After trailing the entire contest, DSU finally tied the game at 6-6 in the top ninth inning but the Saints loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the inning, setting up Guzman' walk-off sacrifice fly.

PC advanced to the Charlie Brown Bracket's championship game which will be played at 2 p.m. Sunday in Jamestown, N.D.  Dakota State dropped into a loser's out game against top-seed Mayville State (N.D.) at 5 p.m. Saturday evening.  The winner of that game will face the Saints in the Charlie Brown's Championship game on Sunday.

Presentation earned a 2-0 lead after three innings before Dakota State scored its first run of the game in the top fourth.  Connor Nagel led off with a walk.  Micah DeHarty, courtesy runner for Nagel, advanced to third base after a double by Samuel DrummondHayden Klibbe produced an RBI ground out to score DeHarty as the Trojans trailed 2-1.

Dyshawn Proudlove reached safely on base after PC committed a defensive error in the top sixth.  He advanced to third base after the Saints' wild pitch and scored home after another miscue by Presentation.  DSU cut PC's lead to 3-2 before entering the bottom sixth.

The Saints plated four runs in the bottom sixth with four runs, raising to their biggest lead of the game at 6-2.

Alec Gannon reached on base by a walk with one out in the top seventh for DSU.  Jalen Boyd followed up with a double to advance Gannon to third base.  PC committed a passed ball to allow Gannon to score as the Trojans trailed 6-3.

Drummond blasted his first career collegiate home run in the top eighth inning as DSU reduced their deficit to 6-4.  The Trojans produced three singles by Klibbe, Christian Sanchez and followed with an RBI single by Gannon as DSU cut PC's lead to 6-5.

With two outs in the top ninth after Nagel's single, Drummond hit a single to advance Zach Sutera (pinch runner for Nagel) to third base.  Klibbe hit an RBI single to score Sutera as the Trojans rallied back to tie the game at 6-6.

PC secured the win with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom ninth.

Drummond was 3-of-5 at the plate with a home run, double, single and an RBI for Dakota State.  Klibbe tallied a double, two singles and two RBIs.  Sanchez added three hits.  Gannon had two singles and an RBI.  Boyd hit a double.  Nagel had two walks and a single.

Zane Hunt was 3-of-4 at the plate with an RBI for PC.  Eric Hernandez added two hits and two RBIs.  Radomskiy and Guzman each had two hits and an RBI.

Both teams tallied 13 this in the game.  The Trojans left 11 runners on base compared to the Saints eight runners on base.

Nagel started the game on the pitching mound for Dakota State.  He tossed 6 1/3 innings and allowed six runs (one unearned) on 11 hits.  He struck out six PC's batters.  Trey Randel (L, 0-1) recorded the loss as he worked two innings in relief.  He allowed an unearned run on two hits.

Joey Wollman pitched seven innings for Presentation.  He gave up three runs (one unearned) on six hits.  He registered six strikeouts.  Colin Crandall worked for one out, while Chris D'Amico pitched for two outs.  Austin Crain (W, 3-0) earned the victory despite giving up a run on three hits in the top ninth inning.
