MADISON, S.D. – All 10 Dakota State (S.D.) women's basketball players scored in the game Tuesday evening, cruising to a 108-37 non-conference victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.) at DSU Fieldhouse. It was the most points scored in a game since Jan. 30, 2016 where the Trojans scored 101 points versus Mayville State (N.D.) on DSU's home court.
DSU's season-high of 108 points is the fourth-most points scored in a single-game women's basketball school record book. The Trojans completed their two-game home stand with a 2-0 record, improving their overall record to 2-4. Trinity Bible fell to 0-3 overall record.
Dakota State won't return to action in two weeks, playing their first road game of the season. The Trojans visit the nationally-ranked No. 5 Dordt (Iowa) on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at DeWitt Gymnasium in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Dakota State (S.D.) 108, Trinity Bible (N.D.) 37 – FINAL
- The Trojans opened the game with a 4-0 lead after a pair of free-throws by Ashlyn Macdonald and a basket by Morgan Koepsell and never trailed in the game.
- Holding a 15-7 lead, DSU scored 14 straight points in the final 3:50 of the first quarter to widen their lead to 29-7 over the Lions. The Trojans shot 57.9 percent from the field (11-of-19 field goals) compared to TBC 3-of-9 field goals (33 percent) in the first ten minutes of the game.
- Dakota State stretched their scoring run in the early second quarter, extending their scoring run to 23-0 for a 38-7 lead after a basket by Savannah Walsdorf with 6:09 left in the second quarter.
- The Trojans outscored the Lions 28-15 in the second quarter to grab a 57-22 halftime lead. DSU shot a sizzling 62.2 percent from the field (23-of-37), including 8-of-15 from the 3-point line. TBC was held to 9-of-24 field goal shooting (37.5 percent) and 3-of-5 from the 3-point arc.
Dakota State only missed two shots in the third quarter, shooting a blazing 85.7 percent from the field (12-of-14) to widen their lead to 91-27. The Trojans outscored the Lions 34-5 in the third.- Lindsey Vogl hit a 3-pointer (assisted by Jessi Giles) as the Trojans surpassed the century point at 101-33 with 4:22 remaining.
- Six DSU players scored in double figures, led by Vogl with 19 points on her 6-of-9 field goal shooting and 5-of-7 from the 3-point line. Walsdorf tallied 16 points off the bench (7-of-11 field goals). Riley Peters also hit 6-of-9 field goals and 4-of-7 3-pointers for 16 points off the bench. Giles had 13 points. Koepsell added 12 points.
- Dakota State produced a season-high 29 assists, paced by Giles with six assists. Peters added five assists. Macdonald had four assists. The Trojans also recorded a season-high 20 steals, with Giles and Sidney Fick each with four steals. Shaylee DeBeer stole the ball three times.
- Koepsell grabbed nine rebounds for the Trojans. Walsdorf added eight rebounds and registered two blocks.
- Stacia West led the Lions with 16 points and pulled down four rebounds. Jena Sidle added 11 points and two steals. Chambre Droste had five assists and four rebounds.
- Dakota State made season-high 42 field goals, 15 3-point field goals and hit 60.9 percent of their field goal shots. The Trojans were 50 percent from the 3-point line and made all nine free-throws. Trinity Bible was held to 30.6 percent shooting from the field (15-of-49 field goals) and 4-of-10 3-pointers.
DSU outrebounded TBC 35-26 in the game. The Trojans outscored the Lions 53-5 in points off turnovers and 52-22 inside the paint.
