MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) established its first winning streak of the season Tuesday evening, scoring a season-high 101 points in 101-63 non-conference men's basketball victory over Trinity Bible at DSU Fieldhouse. It was the first home victory of the season for the Trojans and established its winning streak for the first time since last November 2018.
Dakota State improved to 2-7 overall record. Trinity Bible suffered its first defeat this season, falling to 2-1 overall record.
The Trojans step aside their regular-season play on Saturday, visiting NCAA Division II Sioux Falls (S.D.) for an exhibition game. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Dakota State (S.D.) 101, Trinity Bible (N.D.) 63 – FINAL
- Dakota State and Trinity Bible traded leads seven times in the first three-plus minutes of the game.
- Leading 17-16, DSU went on an 8-0 scoring tear to widen their lead to 25-16 after a 3-pointer by Josh McGreal with 10 minutes to go. The Lions would answer with a 7-0 run to trim their deficit to 25-23 with 8:18 on the clock in the first-half.
- DSU then held the Lions scoreless for more than six minutes, sparking a monstrous 22-0 outburst to extend their lead to 47-23 with 1:42 after a 3-pointer by Carson Rentz (assisted by McGreal).
- Dakota State led 53-28 by halftime, thanks to a sizzling 54.5 percent shooting from the field (18-of-33). The Trojans were also 11-of-19 from the 3-point arc in the first-half (57.9 percent). Trinity Bible was held to 38.7 percent from the field (12-of-31) and 4-of-16 3-pointers.
The Trojans maintained control for the rest of the game, leading as many as 45 points after a 3-pointer by Rentz for DSU's 91-46 lead with 9:52 remaining.- Drew Blosmo made a basket with 3:23 left as the Trojans hit the century point.
- The Trojans outscored the Lions 48-35 in the second-half. DSU was 50 percent from the field (17-of-34) and 8-of-15 from the 3-point line. TBC was 44.8 percent from the field (13-of-29) and 3-of-13 3-pointers in the final twenty minutes of the game.
- Five DSU players scored in double figures, led by McGreal with a career-high 27 points on his 11-of-13 field goals and 3-of-5 from the 3-point line. Rentz added 17 points (6-of-11 field goals and 5-of-10 3-pointers). Cole Bruhn posted his first double-double of the season with 12 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Brady Van Holland had 10 points. Shaq Russell tallied 10 points.
- Gare Ewefada scored nine points for the Trojans. Brady Elder dished out a season-high nine assists. Ewefada and Blosmo each stole the ball twice. McGreal grabbed eight rebounds. Van Holland and Russell each had six rebounds.
- Logan Klitzke scored 20 points on his 7-of-13 field goal shooting and 3-of-3 free-throws for the Lions. Khalil Bolden added 16 points and registered five steals. Austin Molan had 13 points. Parker Stemen recorded eight points and collected nine rebounds.
- Dakota State shot 52.2 percent from the field (35-of-67) and drained a season-high 19 3-pointers in 34 attempts (55.9 percent). The Trojans tied the school record in 3-point field goals made for the third time (at Waldorf, Iowa on Feb. 3, 2017 and versus Mount Marty, S.D. on Nov. 6, 2016).
Trinity Bible shot 41.7 percent from the field (25-of-60 field goals) and 7-of-29 3-pointers (24.1 percent).- The Trojans outrebounded the Lions 43-28 in the game. DSU outscored TBC 19-5 in points off turnovers and 11-3 in second-chance points.
