Dickinson State (N.D.) shut down Dakota State (S.D.) in NSAA softball

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State (N.D.) completed their North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) softball four-game series sweep Saturday afternoon, finishing off Dakota State (S.D.) in identical scores of 6-0 in the doubleheader at North Softball Complex.

Dakota State dropped their fourth straight defeat, falling to 8-29 overall record and 5-17 NSAA conference record.  Dickinson State improved to 21-20 overall record and evened their league play at 11-11 record.

Game 1 – Dickinson State (N.D.) 6, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL

The Blue Hawks outhit the Trojans 10-5 in the first game of the doubleheader.  DiSU jumped to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings.  Dickinson State added a run in the bottom fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.

Taylor Poe led Dakota State by going 2-of-3 at the plate with a double and single.  Quinn Motichka added a double.  Melissa Krapf and Sarah Torres each had a hit.  Jayme Knauer reached on by a walk twice.

Andrea Rodriguez went perfect at the plate, hitting two doubles, single and drove in a run for the Blue Hawks.  Jaya Allen added a double, single and an RBI.  Claire Shoffit had a hit and an RBI.  Caitlyn Welch had two hits and an RBI.  Rhea Paiva had two singles and two RBIs.

Annalisa Ingui (L, 0-7) tossed a complete game, despite the defeat for DaSU.  She gave up six runs on 10 hits. 

Allen (W, 10-12) earned a complete game victory in the pitching circle for DiSU.  She limited the Trojans to five hits and registered four strikeouts.

Game 2 – Dickinson State (N.D.) 6, Dakota State (S.D.) 0 – FINAL

Dickinson State used another fast start in the four-game series finale, racing to a 4-0 lead after two innings.  The Blue Hawks plated two more runs in the bottom fourth to balloon their lead to 6-0.

DiSU tallied 13 hits in the game compared to DaSU seven hits.

Ronke led the Trojans' offense attack with a double and single.  Ingui added two singles.  Motichka, Xitlali Lopez and Poe each recorded a hit.  Lopez had a walk.

Sonja Lawrence went 3-of-4 at the plate with a triple, double, single and an RBI for the Blue Hawks.  Abi Brooks added three hits and two RBIs.  Shoffit had a double and an RBI.  Emilie Sickler each had a hit. 

Lopez (L, 4-10) took the defeat after working for 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits for DaSU.  Stefani Gollin tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, yielding the Blue Hawks to two hits. 

Brooks (W, 10-7) pitched a complete game victory for DiSU.  She gave up seven hits.

Up Next

Dakota State heads into the final week of North Star Athletic Association conference regular-season play.  The Trojans are scheduled to host Bellevue (Neb.) in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.  First game is set for 4 p.m. at Thue Softball Complex in downtown Madison.

Dakota State concludes their regular-season schedule with a four-game series at Viterbo (Wis.) next weekend in La Crosse, Wis.
