DSU women's basketball hit century mark in rout at Trinity Bible (N.D.)

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) raced to a 65-19 halftime lead Saturday afternoon, thanks to a sizzling 67.4 percent shooting from the field, and rolled to a 107-53 road victory at Trinity Bible (N.D.).  The Trojans never trailed in the game to earn their second straight win.

DSU raised their overall record to 4-2, while TBC remained winless in three games.  Dakota State's 107 points was a season-high and tied for fifth-most points scored in a single-game record (107 points versus Sioux Falls, S.D. on Dec. 1, 1979). 

Dakota State returns home Tuesday evening to kick off their three-game home stand for the week.  The Trojans host No. 24-ranked Morningside (Iowa) at DSU Fieldhouse.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Dakota State (S.D.) 107, Trinity Bible (N.D.) 53 – FINAL

  • Dakota State kicked off the game by scoring 10 straight points from four different scorers – Jessi Giles, Ashlyn Macdonald, Elsie Aslesen, and Lexi Robson.  Macdonald made a basket with seven minutes, fourteen seconds on the clock to give the Trojans a 10-0 lead.
  • The Trojans shot a blazing 60.9 percent from the field (14-of-23 field goals) to earn a 32-7 lead over the Lions.  Trinity Bible was held to 3-of-13 field goals (23.1 percent).
  • Dakota State missed only five shots in the second quarter (15-of-20 field goals – 75 percent from the field), increasing their lead to 65-19.  Rachel Church hit a half-court shot at the buzzer for the Lions, who shot 5-of-12 from the field in the second (41.7 percent).
  • DSU outscored TBC 33-12 in the final ten minutes of the first half.
  • Dakota State maintained their control for the rest of the game, leading 90-32 after three quarters.  Trinity Bible outscored the Trojans 21-17 in the final quarter.
  • Thirteen Trojan players scored in the game (and recorded at least a steal), with five players scoring in double-digits.  Robson tallied a career-high 15 points on her perfect 7-of-7 field goals, including 2-of-2 3-pointers.  Courtney Menning scored a career-high 15 points off the bench on her 7-of-10 field goal shooting.
  • Savannah Walsdorf and Giles each added 12 points for Dakota State.  Shaylee DeBeer had 10 points off the bench on her 5-of-6 field goals.  Aslesen had nine points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.  Logan Keszler and Morgan Huber each scored eight points.
  • Walsdorf, Menning and Lex Evans each collected five rebounds for DSU.  Giles and Menning each dished out three assists.  Menning and DeBeer each stole the ball three times.  Walsdorf, Giles and Miakken Vincent each recorded two steals.
  • Stacia West poured in a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Lions.  She was 9-of-21 from the field.  Brenna Anderson and Kaitlyn Stoughton each added 10 points.  Anderson and Church each had five rebounds. 
  • Dakota State made a season-high 45 field goals in 80 attempts (season-high 56.3 percent).  The Trojans were 9-of-28 from the 3-point line (32.1 percent).  Trinity Bible was 20-of-57 field goals (35.1 percent) and 6-of-17 3-pointers (35.3 percent).
  • DSU converted 8-of-12 free-throws (66.7 percent).  TBC made 7-of-10 free-throws (70 percent).
  • The Trojans outrebounded the Lions 38-26.  Dakota State's bench outscored Trinity Bible 54-6.  DSU stole the ball 20 times in the game.
