MADISON, S.D. – All eleven Dakota State (S.D.) men's basketball players scored in the game Sunday afternoon at DSU Fieldhouse, rolling to their second straight victory. The Trojans stormed past Oak Hills (Minn.) 83-53, moving to 5-0 all-time series record with the Wolfpack.
DSU, who never trailed in the forty minutes basketball game, lifted their overall record to 2-3. Oak Hills was playing their third straight game in three days on the road, fell to 3-6 overall record.
Dakota State now awaits until Saturday, Dec. 19 for their next game. The Trojans travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on NCAA Division III Northwestern (Minn.) for a non-conference game. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. at Ericksen Center.
DSU was originally scheduled to host the North Star Athletic Association contests with Viterbo (Wis.) on Friday (Dec. 11) and Waldorf (Iowa) on Saturday (Dec. 12). The virus issues at Viterbo and Waldorf had prompted to postpone those contests, with a make-up date with the V-Hawks on Jan. 29, 2021. There is no make-up date for the game with the Warriors at this point.
Dakota State (S.D.) 83, Oak Hills (Minn.) 53 – FINAL
- Josh McGreal and Ronnie Latting each open the game with a basket to give Trojans a 4-0 early lead (with 18 minutes, 2 seconds on the clock).
- Leading 14-8, DSU held the Wolfpack to zero points for more than five-and-half minutes. Dakota State sparked a 16-0 outburst to widen their lead to 30-8 after a 3-pointer by Gare Ewefada with 5:18 left in the first half.
- Connor LeBrun hit a lay-up, assisted by Carson Rentz, as the first half expired to give DSU a 38-19 lead.
- Dakota State shot 50 percent from the field in the first twenty minutes of the game (15-of-30 field goals). Oak Hills was held to 25.9 percent from the field (7-of-27 field goals).
- The Wolfpack could get no closer than 15 points after a 3-pointer by Deontray Anderson, trimming DSU's lead to 56-41 with less than 11 minutes left in the game.
- Cole Bruhn drained a 3-pointer to give Trojans its largest lead of the game at 83-50 with 35.2 seconds remaining.
- DSU outscored OHC 45-34 in the final twenty minutes of the game. The Trojans shot a blazing 57.1 percent from the field (16-of-28 field goals) in the second half, while the Wolfpack shot 30.6 percent (11-of-36 field goals).
- McGreal poured in a season-high 27 points on his 10-of-17 field goals, 2-of-4 3-pointers and converted 5-of-6 free-throws for Dakota State. He also pulled down a season-high eight rebounds. He had two assists.
- Latting added 12 points (5-of-8 field goals) and grabbed eight rebounds for DSU. Ewefada scored seven points and collected nine rebounds. Gavin Schipper and Jade Burma each tallied eight points.
- Jordan Lynn and Brady Van Holland each produced five assists for the Trojans. Rentz added three assists. Van Holland, Ewefada and Burma each registered a steal. McGreal and LeBrun each had a blocked shot.
- Carter Bell paced Oak Hills with 14 points (5-of-8 field goals, including 4-of-7 from the 3-point arc). Doug Merida and Matthew Richmond each added 12 points. Merida dished out five assists and stole the ball twice.
- Jessie 'Jex' Nwalor, DJ Johnson and Devin Session each recorded four rebounds for OHC.
- Dakota State shot a season-high 53.4 percent overall from the field, making 31 baskets in 58 attempts. Oak Hills was held to 28.6 percent from the field (16-of-63 field goals).
- The Wolfpack hit 10 3-pointers in 33 tries (33.3 percent) compared to the Trojans 8-of-21 3-pointers (38.1 percent). DSU was 13-of-15 free-throws (86.7 percent). OHC made 7-of-10 free-throws (70 percent).
- Dakota State outrebounded Oak Hills 47-27 in the game. The Trojans outscored the Wolfpack 34-14 inside the paint, 13-9 in second-chance points and 28-18 in bench points.
