MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second game of the Friends (Kan.) softball tournament Friday afternoon at Two Rivers Youth Complex. Host-team Friends poured in 17 unanswered runs to earn a 17-3 victory over the Trojans.
DSU fell to 2-4 overall record, while Friends lifted their overall record to 7-1.
Dakota State continues their action in the tournament Saturday morning, facing Graceland (Iowa) at 10 a.m. and Briar Cliff (Iowa) at 4 p.m. Both games will be held at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
Friends (Kan. 17, Dakota State (S.D.) 3 – FINAL
- Rosie Philop and Sarah Torres each reached on base by a walk with one out in the top first for DSU. Xitlali Lopez hit a single to set up a bases loaded situation with one out.
- After Philop was forced out at home after Lia Chan's fielder's choice, Madison Aldendifer produced an RBI walk to score Torres for 1-0 DSU lead. Vinitzia Blanco hit a 2-RBI single to score Xitlali Lopze and Chan to extend the Trojans' lead to 3-0.
- The Falcons answered with two runs in the bottom first frame. Carolyn Dallimore hit an RBI single as FU trimmed Dakota State's lead to 3-2.
- Friends racked up a total of 14 runs in the bottom third inning to overtake a 16-3 lead. The Falcons produced seven hits in the third.
- Savanna Jackson added an RBI double in the bottom fourth to complete the final score in five innings.
- Blanco went 1-of-2 at the plate with two RBIs for DSU. Torres and Chan each had a hit and a run scored. Aldendifer added an RBI.
- Kat Davis went 2-of-3 at the plate with four RBIs for Friends. Meghan Low added three hits and three RBIs. Jennifer Garcia had two hits.
- The Falcons outhit the Trojans 13-3 in the game. FU lex six runners on base compared to DSU fie runners on base.
- Madison Biller (L, 1-2) recorded the setback in the pitching circle after 3 1/3 innings of work. Aldendifer tossed two outs in relief.
- Michelle Kroell (W, 4-0) earned the victory after working four innings. She allowed three runs on two hits. Ashlyn Jacobs pitched a scoreless fifth inning in relief.
