DALLAS, Texas – Dakota State (S.D.) poured in a season-high 25 runs Friday afternoon, cruising past NCAA Division III Blackburn (Ill.) in the second game of the day at Dallas Christian Baseball Field. The Trojans earned its 10th win of the season with a 25-5 rout over the Beavers.
Dakota State ballooned its winning streak to four games, lifting their overall record to 10-5. The last time DSU recorded its 10th win of the season during the month of March was in 2012. Blackburn dropped their overall record to 0-11.
DSU closes out their road stretch Saturday versus Capital (Ohio) at 12 p.m. and host-team Dallas Christian at 3 p.m.
Dakota State (S.D.) 25, Blackburn (ill.) 5 – FINAL
- Noah Angstadt and Kameron Bryant recorded back-to-back walks with one out in the top first inning for Dakota State. Jace Pribyl hit a 2-out RBI single to score Angstadt to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
- DSU made it 2-0 when Chris Burke hit an RBI single on the next at-bat, scoring Bryant.
- Blackburn answered with a run in the bottom half of the first inning. Jason Hedges led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a passed ball. After Braden Webb hit a ground out to advance Hedges to third base, Tyler Jackson hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Hedges as the Beavers trailed 2-1.
- Dakota State poured in six runs in the top second frame, highlighted by Bryant's RBI double and Mason Macaluso's RBI single. The Trojans' lead grew to 8-1 after two innings.
- Adam Holm hit a 2-RBI single with two outs in the bottom third inning as Blackburn trimmed DSU's lead to 8-3.
- Jackson O'Neal, Walker Hultgren, and Ryan McDaniel each produced an RBI double to plate three runs in the top fourth inning, extending DSU's lead to 11-3.
- Macaluso and Pribyl each added an RBI single in the top fifth to widen the Trojans' lead to 13-3.
- Dakota State exploded for six more runs in the top sixth inning, highlighted by Macaluso's 2-RBI double. O'Neal capped the inning with an RBI double to increase DSU's lead to 19-3.
- The Trojans produced another six-run offense explosion in the top seventh inning, thanks to Chris Burke and Hultgren with 2-RBI doubles each. DSU led 25-3 before Blackburn added two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
- Dakota State produced nine doubles in the game. The Trojans outhit the Beavers 18-7 in the game. Blackburn committed seven defensive miscues while DSU did not commit a defensive error.
- DSU's Macaluso went 4-of-6 at the plate with a double, three singles, and drove in a game-high five runs. Burke added a double, single, stolen base, and three RBIs. Hultgren had two doubles, single and three RBIs.
- O'Neal had two doubles and drove in two runs for the Trojans. Bryant also had two doubles and an RBI. Pribyl tallied three singles and an RBI. Josh Van Beek and McDaniel each recorded a hit.
- Holm was 2-of-2 with two RBIs for Blackburn. Hedges, Blaine Dunning, RJ Arredondo and Brock Lyerly each added a hit.
- Noah Daugherty started the game for Dakota State. He worked for three innings and allowed three runs on six hits. He recorded four strikeouts. Nicholi Arbach (W, 1-0) recorded his first career collegiate victory as he tossed four innings in relief. He yielded the Beavers to two runs on one hit. He struck out three Blackburn's batters.
- The Beavers used eight different pictures in the game as Peyton Blackburn (L, 0-1) recorded the setback.
