NSAA PRESS RELEASE
MADISON, S.D. – As the 2021-22 academic season wraps up Thursday, the North Star Athletic Association had announced its Scholar-Athletes. A total of 802 student-athletes received the prestigious conference academic achievement recognition.
The 802 recipients, participating in the fall, winter, and spring sports (women's and men's cross country, women's volleyball, football, women's and men's basketball, women's and men's golf, women's and men's track & field, softball, and baseball) were recognized for their outstanding academic accomplishment in the classroom and on the playing field.
The Dakota State University athletic department recorded a total 111 student-athletes earn 131 NSAA Scholar-Athletes for the 2021-22 academic season. A total of 21 student-athletes earned multiple awards as dual/tri-sport athletes.
The conference scholar-athlete award is presented to individuals meeting the criteria while competing in fall, winter, and spring sports. The sports included athletes in women's and men's cross country, women's volleyball, football, women's and men's basketball, women's and men's track & field, women's & men's golf, softball, and baseball.
Dakota State holds the most total scholar-athletes in the league for the second consecutive season. The Trojans also broke the previous record of 130 student-athletes last season in 2020-21.
Men's track & field and baseball programs hold the most scholar-athletes in a specific program in the DSU Athletics department with 19 student-athletes each. The Trojan volleyball program tallied 18 student-athletes on the conference's scholar athletes, while the football program collected 17 scholar-athletes to the academic honor list.
