2023 SCHEDULE: VARSITY - JUNIOR VARSITY
MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) opens their 2023 volleyball schedule with six straight matches against members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), the fifteen-year head coach
Amy Veenhof announced the schedule Tuesday. The Trojans set a total of 29 matches on their regular-season schedule, including 12 North Star Athletic Association matches.
DSU, who finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 17-17, makes their 2023 season debut on Aug. 19 in a triangular with host-team Northwestern (Iowa) – 2022 NAIA national tournament qualifier – and Briar Cliff (Iowa) in Orange City. The Trojans stay on the road on Aug. 23, visiting another GPAC foe Morningside (Iowa) in Sioux City.
Dakota State hosts the North Star Athletic Association/GPAC Cross-over at DSU Fieldhouse on Aug. 26 with four matches scheduled. The Trojans kick off the cross-over tournament versus Dordt (Iowa) at 11 a.m., followed by a pair of matches with Dordt-Mayville State (N.D.) at 1 p.m. and Mount Marty (S.D.)-Mayville State (N.D.) at 3 p.m. The tournament concludes with the Trojans taking on in-state rival Lancers at 5 p.m.
Dakota State hosts long-time rival Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Aug. 29. They will meet for their second meeting on Oct. 3 in Mitchell.
DSU returns to North Sioux City, S.D. for the annual College of Saint Mary (Neb.) Labor Day Classic on Sept. 1-2. The tournament is being held at United Sports Academy, with the Trojans taking on Dordt in the second meeting of the season and Bethel (Kan.) of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference on Sept. 1.
The Trojans take on the NAIA's defending champion and former North Star conference member Jamestown (N.D.) on the second day of the tournament on Sept. 2. Dakota State wraps up the tournament versus Mount Mercy (Iowa) of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) on the same day.
DSU concludes their preseason tournament schedule in the Viterbo (Wis.) Tournament on Sept. 8-9. The Trojans open the tournament against Columbia (Mo.) of the American Midwest Conference on Sept. 8. DSU faces Montana Tech of the Frontier Conference and William Penn (Iowa) of HAAC on Sept. 9.
Dakota State concludes their road trip on Sept. 13 as they open their North Star's conference schedule at Bellevue (Neb.). The Trojans continue their conference play as they return home on Sept. 21 versus Viterbo and Sept. 23 Waldorf (Iowa).
DSU visits Mayville State (N.D.) in the NSAA conference action on Sept. 27.
After their non-conference match at DWU on Oct. 3, Dakota State prepares for their three-match home stand at DSU Fieldhouse in the North Star conference action. The Trojans host Dickinson State (N.D.) on Oct. 6, Valley City State (N.D.) on Oct. 7, and kick off the second half portion of the conference schedule on Oct. 10 versus Bellevue.
DSU plays in a mid-season tournament on Oct. 14, hosted by Bellevue. The Trojans face Grand View (Iowa) of the HAAC in the first match, followed by Montana Tech for the second time of the season.
Dakota State continues their road trip as they play their final non-conference match at Mount Marty on Oct. 17. The Trojans resume to NSAA conference action on Oct. 20 at Waldorf, Oct. 21 at Viterbo, Oct. 27 at Valley City State, and Oct. 28 at Dickinson State.
The Trojans wrap up their regular-season schedule on Nov. 4 at home versus Mayville State.
There will be a new tournament schedule format for the North Star Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Postseason Tournament, which is set to take place at Civic Arena in Watertown, S.D. The top six teams will advance to the conference tournament (past conference tournaments were set for two-day schedule format).
The NSAA conference tournament will run on a three-day schedule format, starting on Nov. 9 with two quarterfinal matches. The quarterfinal winners will move on to the semifinal round on Nov. 10, with the championship match set for Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.
The winner of the NSAA postseason tournament will advance to the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Tournament Opening Round on Nov. 18, held at campus sites. The national tournament's opening round winners move on to the final site at Tyson Events Center for pool and bracket play on Nov. 29 through Dec. 5.
Dakota State will have a junior varsity team, starting with a home scrimmage with Minnesota West CC on Aug. 22. The Trojans scheduled 17 regular-season junior varsity matches, including tournaments at Morningside on Sept. 7 and North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) on Sept. 15-16. DSU will host a junior varsity triangular with Iowa Lakes CC and Mount Marty on Sept. 25.

+The Trojans face seven opponents that qualified for the 2022 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Tournament, including a pair of North Star's conference members Bellevue (Neb.) and Viterbo (Wis.). The other opponents included Northwestern (Iowa), Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.), Jamestown (N.D.), Columbia (Mo.), and Montana Tech.
+DSU plays seven straight matches on two different neutral sites (four matches in the College of Saint Mary Labor Day Classic on Sept. 1-2 and three matches in the Viterbo (Wis.) Tournament on Sept. 8-9).
+Dakota State is set to play a total of 10 matches at DSU Fieldhouse.

This year, a new schedule format will be used, where the conference tournament will be held for three days from Nov. 9-11.
