MADISON, S.D. – Holding a five-point lead after the first quarter Saturday afternoon in the women's basketball action at DSU Fieldhouse, NAIA's No. 7 ranked Dakota State (S.D.) outscored NCAA Division III Minnesota-Morris 47-21 combined in the second and third quarters to roll to a 101-63 victory. It was the first home victory this season for the Trojans.
Dakota State improved their overall record to 3-3. Minnesota-Morris remained winless in four games (0-4 overall record).
The Trojans take a week off next week and return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 26. DSU visits No. 19 ranked Northwestern (Iowa) in a non-conference action at Bultman Center in Orange City, Iowa. The tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

Minnesota-Morris hit the first five shots of the game, opening the game with a 13-6 lead after a 3-pointer from Katelyn Lindberg (assisted by Jordan Ohman-Bjork) with four minutes, forty-four seconds on the clock.
Dakota State outscored the Cougars 14-2 in the final 4:12 of the first quarter, earning a 20-15 lead after
Angela Slattery's steal followed by a fast-break layup.
UMM went 5-for-8 from the field (62.5 percent) in the first ten minutes compared to DSU 9-of-23 field goals (39.1 percent).Â
The Trojans kicked off the second quarter with a 6-0 scoring run, capped by a 3-pointer from
Cierra Watkins (assisted by Slattery) for the first double digit lead of the game at 26-15 with less than nine minutes to go.
Leading 31-21, DSU went on another scoring run by scoring eight straight points.Â
Olivia Ritter sparked the scoring run with five straight points followed by a 3-pointer from
Bria Wasmund (assisted by
Kenzi Simmons) for a 39-21 lead with less than four minutes to go.
Dakota State outscored Minnesota-Morris 25-8 in the second period, ballooning their lead to 45-23 by halftime. The Trojans shot 9-of-18 from the field (50 percent) in the final ten minutes of the first half and held the Cougars to 30.8 percent (4-of-13 field goals).
DSU maintained their double digits lead for the rest of the game, leading as many as 41 points, leading 77-36 by the end of the third quarter after a basket by
Ella Carstensen.
The Trojans outscored the Cougars 32-13 in the third period, thanks to their 13-of-23 field goal shooting (56.2 percent) and 4-of-8 from the 3-point line. UMM was 46.2 percent from the field (6-of-13 field goals).
Minnesota-Morris outscored Dakota State 27-24 in the final quarter.
Five DSU players scored in double digits in the game.Â
Tabor Teel paced the Trojans with a double-double of 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds (seven offensive rebounds). She was 8-of-12 from the field. Watkins added 13 points.Â
Tia Murray scored 12 points off the bench. Wasmund and Slattery each scored 10 points and stole the ball three times. Slattery dished out six assists, while Wasmund added four assists.Â
Carstensen had six points and six rebounds for Dakota State.Â
Angelina Chapple tallied six points and three rebounds. Simmons recorded nine points, five rebounds, two blocks, and three assists.Â
Lilli Mackley had six points and three rebounds.Â
Claire Stark led the Cougars with 20 points on her 8-of-10 field goals and 4-of-5 free-throws. She also had six rebounds. Anna Myers had 10 points. Katelyn Lindberg scored nine points and collected five rebounds.Â
Dakota State was 39-of-81 from the field (48.1 percent) compared to Minnesota-Morris 23-of-46 field goals (50 percent). The Trojans hit 11 3-pointers in 31 attempts, while the Cougars were 3-of-7 3-pointers.
DSU outrebounded UMM 40-28 in the game (21-6 on the offensive boards). The Trojans outscored the Cougars 24-5 in second chance points.Â
Dakota State scored 34 points off turnovers to Minnesota-Morris five points off turnovers. DSU's bench outscored UMM 44-22. The Trojans scored 24 in fast-break points transition compared to the Cougars zero fast-break points.
