SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – College of Saint Mary (Neb.) used a six-run offensive explosion in the second inning in the American State Bank Sports Complex Dome Classic finale Saturday afternoon, holding off Dakota State (S.D.) by the score of 9-4. The Trojans finished with a 1-3 record in the second dome tournament, hosted by Dordt (Iowa).
Dakota State fell to 1-7 overall record. College of Saint Mary, a member of Great Plains Athletic Conference, improved to 4-3 overall record.
DSU plays their final preseason tournament tune-up next weekend with a five-game schedule in the Friends (Kan.) Tournament. The Trojans open the tournament against No. 10 ranked Midland (Neb.) at 11 a.m., followed by a contest with York (Neb.) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday (March 1).
DSU plays three games on March 2 against Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.), host-team (RV) Friends (Kan.), and Saint Mary (Kan.).

Both teams left a runner on base after the first inning (Paige Stuck of CSM and
Hannah McFarland of DSU each registered a walk).
The Flames exploded for six runs in the top second frame. Savannah Schewe led off with a walk and advanced to second base after a ground out by Sydney Griffin. Macy Santoni hit a single to advance Schewe to third base. Shaylynn Campbell produced an RBI single to score Schewe for CSM's 1-0 lead.
With bases loaded situation and two outs for College of Sain Mary in the top second, the Flames scored five straight runs highlighted by three straight RBI walks from Stuck, Daisy Lowther, and Schewe followed by Griffin's RBI single to balloon their lead to 6-0.
Dakota State snapped their scoring drought in the bottom half of the third inning, plating three runs. McFarland drilled a double with one out.
Ally Morrissey was hit-by-pitch.
Rosie Philop hit a two-out RBI single to score McFarland as DSU trailed 6-1 (Morrissey advanced to third base on the same play).
Jordyn Jeffries followed up with a 2-RBI double to score Morrissey and Philop as the Trojans trimmed the Flames' lead to 6-3.
Griffin blasted a bases clearing 3-RBI double with two outs in the top sixth inning to extend CSM's lead to 9-3.
Dakota State answered with a run scored in the bottom sixth. Jeffries hit a single and swiped to second base.
Delaney Barrett drilled an RBI double to score Barrett as the Trojans trailed 9-4.
The Trojans' comeback attempt fell short in the final inning, despite getting two hits with a single from
Mackenzie Sims and Philop.
Both teams tallied eight hits in the game. The Flames left seven runners on base compared to the Trojans six runners on base.
Jeffries led the Trojans by going 2-of-3 at the plate with a double, single and drove in two runs. She swiped one base. Philop
added two singles and an RBI. Barrett had a double and an RBI. McFarland recorded a hit and walk. Sims and
Mason Usselman each recorded a single.
Hannah Feser had a walk.
Griffin recorded a double, single and collected a game-high three RBIs for the Flames. Campbell added two hits and an RBI. Ella Watts and Megan Garcia each recorded a single.
Barrett (L, 1-2) took the defeat in the pitching circle for Dakota State. She pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed nine runs (five unearned) on seven hits. Usselman worked for the final out in the top sixth inning in relief. Macyee Bricker tossed a shutout inning in relief.
Campbell (W, 3-1) earned a complete game victory for College of Saint Mary. She gave up four runs on eight hits and registered nine strikeouts.
