MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) notched a pair of athletes to the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football weekly honors for the second consecutive week.
Deveon Moses and
Kaden Eng received the weekly football conference awards. The Trojans defeated Jamestown (N.D.) in a defensive battle by the score of 16-6 at Brian Kern Family Stadium on Blankley Field on Sept. 14 in the NSAA conference season opener.
Moses, a 6-foot and 180 lbs. junior corner back from Houston, Texas, was named to NAIA Football National Defensive Player-of-the-Week award. It was the first time since October 2021 (Noah Guse) when a DSU athlete was awarded the national defensive player of the week award.
Moses was also named to the conference's Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor.
He caught two interceptions in the game for the Trojans. Leading 9-6, Moses secured DSU's victory as he returned a 'Pick Six' for a touchdown with less than three minutes remaining in the game. He returned the interception of 60 yards for a touchdown to balloon DSU's lead to 16-6.
Moses also intercepted UJ's pass in the end zone, preventing the Jimmies from scoring with 26 seconds left before halftime. He also had two tackles, and a pass break up in the game.
Deveon is a biology major at Dakota State University.
Eng, a 6-foot-1 and 200 lbs. junior full safety from Castlewood, S.D., was named to NSAA Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.
He returned a 97-yard defensive PAT score which energized the Trojans' momentum to secure the victory. Leading 7-6 after UJ's score, Trojan
Caleb Dwyer blocked Jimmies' PAT extra-point kick and was recovered by Eng. He returned it for 97 points to add two points to Dakota State's score at 9-6 with less than 12 minutes left in the game.
Eng also had a fumble recovery in the game and returned it for a touchdown of 10 yards to give DSU a 7-0 lead in the late first quarter. He scored a total of eight points of the Trojans' 16 points in the game.
Kaden is a physical education major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State, who is starting at a 3-0 overall record for the first time since the 1993 season (1-0 NSAA conference record), heads to Valley City, N.D., on Saturday. The North Star Athletic Association football contest with Valley City State (N.D.) is set for a 4 p.m. kick-off at Shelly Ellig at Lokken Stadium.
