(24) Trojans pull away past Rocky Mountain (Mont.) for 10th conference win

Dakota State (S.D.) earns double digit conference win for the first time since 2019 season

BILLINGS, Mont. – No. 24 Dakota State (S.D.) overcame a slow start to down Rocky Mountain (Mont.) 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-12, 25-19) on Sunday afternoon at the Fortin Education Center in the Frontier Conference volleyball action. The Trojans (14-6 overall, 10-5 Frontier) hit .266 as a team and used a balanced attack – with five players recording double-digit kills – to defeat the Battlin' Bears (1-20 overall record, 0-16 Frontier) for their third straight conference victory.

Dakota State also earned their fifth win in last six Frontier conference matches.  The Trojans reached their 10th conference win for the first time since the 2019 season in the former North Star Athletic Association.

DSU also completed their season series sweep of RMC (defeated Battlin' Bears 3-0 in the first Frontier Conference meeting at DSU Fieldhouse last month).
 

Set 1 Highlights
Rocky Mountain came out strong behind Amelia Kisiel's efficient hitting (.400 with 14 kills overall), and the Battlin' Bears capitalized on Dakota State errors to edge the Trojans 25-23. The Bears hit .357 in the frame, while Dakota State managed a .279 clip led by Sophie Tuttle's early kills.
 

Set 2 Highlights
The Trojans responded in a tight second set, trailing 23-20 before mounting a 6-1 run to steal it 26-24. Maddi Langerock was instrumental down the stretch with an ace and several crucial assists to Tuttle and Halle Bruflat. Dakota State hit .245 in the set while Rocky Mountain hit .283.
 

Set 3 Highlights
Dakota State dominated the third set, jumping out to a 10-3 lead and never looking back. The Trojans hit .267 with 18 kills to just six errors, holding the Battlin' Bears to a .047 percentage. Tuttle and Macey Wathen powered the offense, while Sydney Wathen added a service ace and 15 digs overall to anchor the defense.
 

Set 4 Highlights
The Trojans closed out the match strong, turning a 5-5 tie into a 10-6 advantage and pulling away for the 25-19 win. Dakota State hit .275 in the final frame with 16 kills, paced by Tuttle and Langerock. Rocky Mountain hit .152 as the Trojans finished with 5.0 team blocks and eight service aces.
 

Team Leaders Dakota State tallied 66 kills on 177 swings with just 19 errors (.266), while limiting Rocky Mountain to a .209 clip. The Trojans recorded 97 digs and eight blocks (2 solo, 6 assists) in a balanced effort.

Amelia Kisiel led the Bears with 14 kills on .400 hitting, while Feline Mulder and Sadie Meier each added nine. Meredith Marsh handed out 25 assists and Lauren Rodacker notched 16 digs.

Dakota State continues their five-match road trip Monday evening, playing another Frontier Conference match.  The Trojans travel to the conference's tournament host site at PE Center in Helena, Mont., facing (RV) Carroll (Mont.).  The match is set for 7 p.m. (Central Time)/6 p.m. (Mountain Time).
