MADISON, S.D. – The (RV) Dakota State Trojans swept Mayville State (N.D.) in Frontier Conference women's volleyball action Thursday evening, 3–0 (25–21, 25–19, 25–17), behind a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive presence at DSU Fieldhouse.
DSU hit .252 as a team with 53 kills, while holding the Comets to just a .122 hitting percentage. The Trojans also won the defensive battle, posting 65 digs to MSU's 56 and finishing with 6 team blocks compared to the Comets' 2.
Dakota State remained undefeated at home during Frontier Conference play with a 6-0 record, resulting in all 3-set sweeps. The Trojans raised their overall record to 11-5 and closed the first half of the conference schedule with a 7-4 record.
Mayville State fell to 5-10 overall record and 3-7 Frontier Conference record. The Comets close their first half of the conference play at No. 8 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Set One Highlights
Dakota State jumped out early behind kills from
Sophie Tuttle and
Lauryn Kloth, extending the lead to 15–9. Mayville responded with kills from Andrea Majchrzak and Desidy Schwanke to trim the margin late, but Kloth closed the set with a kill to seal a 25–21 win.
Set Two Highlights
The Trojans built momentum quickly, led by Tuttle and
Macey Wathen, who combined for several key kills during a mid-set run. Mayville hung close thanks to Majchrzak, who finished with a team-high 8 kills, but DSU used a late 5–2 surge capped by
Maddi Langerock and Tuttle to take the frame 25–19.
Set Three Highlights
Dakota State dominated the final set with efficient swings from Kloth and Wathen, along with a stout block at the net. Kloth hit .619 for the match with 14 kills and 6 block assists, leading the way. Tuttle added 12 kills and 4 blocks, while
Macey Wathen contributed 11 kills at a .375 clip.
