SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Dordt (Iowa) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference built an early lead and never let up, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Dakota State (S.D.) at Soccer Complex on the campus of Dordt. The Defenders improved to 8-5-2 on the season, while the Trojans fell to 1-13-2 in their inaugural regular season finale.
Dordt struck quickly — Abi Keltner opened the scoring at 2:28 of the first half with an assist from Abby Worthy. Just 51 seconds later, Karinna Tel converted a feed from Maria Zylstra to make it 2-0.
In the second half, Tel made it 3-0 at 52:50 (assist Zylstra). Zylstra followed with her own goal at 72:47 off a Tel assist. Grace Engbrecht scored at 77:23 (assist Tel), Jenna Roberts added one at 86:58 (assist Kendal Gordon) and Kelli Waypa closed the scoring at 89:01 (assist Roberts).
Dordt out-shot Dakota State 40-1 and earned nine corner kicks to none. Dakota State goalkeeper
Sierra Verplancke faced 20 shots and made 13 saves.
Tell finished with two goals and an assist, Zylstra two assists and a goal, Roberts and Waypa both contributed goals and assists for the Defenders.
