SALINA, Kan. — No. 4 Dakota State women's basketball continued its strong early-season start on Saturday afternoon, powering past Bethel (Kan.) 100-75 behind a dominant performance in the paint on the second day of the Kansas Wesleyan Coyote Classic at Mabee Arena. The Trojans shot 55 percent from the field and outscored the Threshers 66-40 inside the paint to move to 3-0 overall record on the year, the first time since the 2007-08 season that DSU started the season with a 3-0 record.
Dakota State set the tone early with a 28-point opening quarter and never trailed. The Trojans scored at least 21 points in every period, including a 28-point fourth quarter to close out the contest.
Caitlin Dyer led DSU with a game-high 24 points on 11-of-20 shooting while adding five rebounds and three assists.
Tabor Teel recorded a standout double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds while also filling the stat sheet with seven assists and five steals.
Cierra Watkins added 19 points, going 6-of-7 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
The Trojans' depth again proved to be a difference-maker, as the bench contributed 30 points. DSU forced 23 Bethel turnovers and converted those into 33 points.
Bethel (1-1 overall record) was paced by Kendall Locke's 21 points and six assists, while Karlee Locke tallied 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Dakota State held a 43-39 rebounding advantage and recorded 16 steals in the win.
