MBK: Trojans overwhelm Argos in Frontier home opener at DSU Fieldhouse

Dakota State (S.D.) stayed undefeated at home this season and kept Providence (Mont.) winless this season

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) used a balanced scoring to cruise past Providence (Mont.) 81–53 in Frontier Conference play Friday evening at DSU Fieldhouse.  The Trojans kicked off their season-high five-game home stand and remained undefeated in all three home games this season.

The Trojans (5–1, 1–1 Frontier) shot an impressive 56.1 percent from the field (31-of-56 field goals and 45.8 percent from the three-point line (11-of-24 3-pointers), while holding the Argos (0–8, 0–2 Frontier) to 33.9 percent shooting (21-of-62 field goals) and forcing 12 turnovers.

Dakota State led as many as 30 points in the game.
 

First Half Highlights
Dakota State controlled the opening half with efficiency on both ends:
  • Shot 15-for-25 (60%) from the field
  • Blocked five shots, including two each from Tyler Beckwith and Aiden Jensen
  • Scored 16 points in the paint and 9 second-chance points
After Providence took an early 4–1 advantage, DSU went on a series of runs sparked by transition offense and perimeter shooting. Ryan Beckwith and Nathan Ojukwu each buried early threes, while Lukas Morgan added seven first-half points.

A 10–2 DSU burst midway through the period pushed the Trojans ahead by double digits, and they never looked back—closing the half up 38–24.

Second Half Highlights
Ojukwu dominated the final 20 minutes, scoring 13 of his game-high 23 points after halftime. The Trojans knocked down six more threes in the second half and locked down defensively, allowing just 29 points.

Dakota State forced six second-half turnovers and converted them into 16 total points off turnovers for the game.

Brayden Pankonen added seven points after the break.

A late 12–2 surge sealed the Trojans' largest lead at 30 points before rolling to the 28-point victory.
