MAYVILLE, N.D. – (RV) Dakota State earned a straight-set Frontier Conference road victory Wednesday evening, defeating Mayville State by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-21 at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. The Trojans improved to 16-11 overall and 12-9 in conference play with the sweep.
Macey Wathen powered Dakota State at the net, hitting .370 with a match-high 12 kills while adding five total blocks.
Tristyn Maras followed with nine kills on .350 hitting, while
Sophie Tuttle posted eight kills and three digs.
Maddi Langerock steered the offense with 30 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double, along with three block assists and two service aces. She surpassed her 3,000
th career set assist in the match and currently has 3,016 career set assists after the match. Langerock is currently fourth all-time set assists in the Trojan volleyball school record book.
Sydney Wathen anchored the back row with 10 digs and two aces, and
Kate VanRooyan led all defenders with 18 digs.
Dakota State finished with 35 kills and hit .180 as a team, while the Trojans' defense collected 55 digs and 7.0 total team blocks.
Mayville State (6-20, 4-17 Frontier) was led by Desidy Schwanke's 13 kills on .500 hitting, while Andrea Majchrzak added 10 kills. The Comets recorded 40 kills but were limited to .116 hitting and committed 26 attack errors.
Set Breakdown
- Set 1: Dakota State rallied late to break a 17-17 tie. A kill by Maras sealed the 25-23 win.
- Set 2: DSU used a mid-set run and held off a late Mayville push to take the frame 25-22.
- Set 3: With the score tied 16-16, the Trojans finished strong, scoring nine of the final 14 points to close the match 25-21.
Dakota State Statistical Leaders
Dakota State already secured a spot in the 2025 Frontier Conference Postseason Tournament in Helena, Mont., next weekend. The Trojans close their regular season schedule Saturday afternoon at Valley City State (N.D.). The match is set for 2 p.m. at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in Valley City, N.D.
