GREAT FALLS, Mont. – No. 4 ranked Dakota State (S.D.) extended their undefeated Frontier conference women's basketball record to 7-0 with a hard-fought 69-62 victory over (RV) Providence (Mont.) at the McLaughlin Center on Saturday. The game was closely contested throughout, with both teams exchanging leads, but the Trojans' strong performance in the second half allowed them to pull ahead and secure the win.
DSU closed their 2025 calendar year with their ninth straight victory, raising their overall record to 12-1. UP, receiving votes in the NAIA's national poll, fell to 8-3 overall record and 4-3 record in the league. Dakota State completed their season series sweep of Providence, winning the first meeting three weeks ago at DSU Fieldhouse.
First Half Highlights:
The game began with both teams exchanging baskets, with Dakota State taking an early 4-point lead before Providence fought back. The Trojans shot 35.3 percent from the field (6-of-17 field goals) in the opening period, while Providence was held to 5-of-18 field goals (27.8 percent).
Despite Dakota State's 1-of-8 shooting from behind the arc, they managed to stay ahead with solid contributions from players like
Tabor Teel, who recorded two assists and three rebounds early on. By the end of the first period, Dakota State led 13-11 after
Hamtyn Heinz's 3-pointer (assisted by
Madala Hanson).
The Trojans led as many as four points in the second quarter at 26-22 after Heinz's 3-pointer with less than three minutes on the clock. Both teams struggled in the second quarter with the Argos regaining their lead by halftime at 29-28.
Second Half Breakdown:
As the game progressed, Dakota State's lead grew. They outscored Providence 21-18 in the third period, highlighted by contributions from
Caitlin Dyer and Teel. DSU led 49-47 after three quarters.
The Trojans pulled away in the final quarter, outscoring the Argos 20-15 to secure the victory.
Dyer finished with 11 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Teel added 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Dakota State heads to their Christmas break and returns to action on the first weekend of January. The Trojans kick off their New Year by going back to Montana to take on a pair of NAIA's Top 25 teams in the Frontier Conference. The Trojans visit No. 16 ranked Carroll (Mont.) on Jan. 2 at PE Center in Helena at 6 p.m. (Central Time)/5 p.m. (Mountain Time) tip-off.
DSU then heads to No. 15 ranked Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Jan. 3 at Fortin Education Center in Billings, Mont.
