MBK: Dakota State continues season’s best start with dominating victory over Mayville State (N.D.)

Trojans continue their season's best start, matching best nine-game start with 1966-67 squad

MADISON, S.D. – Dakota State (S.D.) used a 46-point first half, a 57-point bench explosion, and a blistering shooting performance to power past Mayville State (N.D.), 93–67, in a Frontier Conference match up Friday night at DSU Fieldhouse.

The Trojans (8–1 overall record, 3–1 Frontier) led for more than 39 minutes and stretched the margin to as many as 29 points.  Dakota State continued their season's best nine-game start since the 1966-67 squad.

Dakota State is also 6-0 record at home this season.
 

First Half Highlights
DSU seized control early with defensive pressure and transition scoring. The Trojans racked up:
  • 20 points off turnovers
  • 16 points in the paint
  • 18 bench points
  • 9 steals
DSU shot 17-of-35 from the field (48.6 percent) in the opening half, including six 3-pointers. Desman Botts' activity inside (12 first-half points) and Ryan Beckwith's outside shooting (two threes) helped the Trojans build a 46–27 halftime lead.

Mayville State—hurt by 13 first-half turnovers—was led early by Christian Bowen-Webb, who had 10 points before the break.
 

Second Half Highlights
After halftime, the Trojans' depth and shot-making overwhelmed the Comets.

Nathan Ojukwu erupted for 24 second-half points, burying four threes and finishing 8-of-10 from the floor in the period.

The Trojans shot 53 percent (16-of-30 field goals) in the second half and 11-of-12 at the free-throw line, turning the contest into a comfortable home victory.
